Montenegro is beautiful, and we loved the countryside 🌿 But along the coast — especially between Kotor and Budva — the summer traffic was intense, and it honestly took a lot of the magic away.
One of the things we were most excited about was the Lovćen Cable Car and alpine coaster (toboggan) up Mount Lovćen. The views over the Bay of Kotor are stunning, and the ride itself is fun.
But the reality behind that 10–15 minute experience was… a lot.
From the moment we bought tickets at Kotor bus station, the whole trip took us around 7 hours. Queues were disorganised, staff struggled with the crowds, and when it started raining, no one seemed to know what was happening.
We booked the shuttle + cable car combo (around €30 per adult). The toboggan is extra (around €8 per ride). The timetable said two buses per hour, but we waited about 45 minutes.
On the way back, a tunnel was closed due to an accident and no shuttles were running — but no one told us. We ended up paying for a taxi through the mountains back to Kotor (10–15 mins). We later tried to get a refund for the unused return shuttle, but it never happened, even after weeks of emails.
So yes — the views are amazing. But for us, getting there and back was a lot of hassle.
If you’re planning Montenegro, I’d honestly suggest avoiding peak summer (July–August) if you can.

If your plans change, Eurostar usually lets you change your travel time or date (same route) — even close to departure — either online via Manage My Booking or in person at the station. On Standard and Plus tickets, this can be done up to one hour before departure, with no change fee (you only pay any fare difference).
We managed to change both our London–Paris and Paris–London tickets because we arrived at the station much earlier than planned. After exchanging them at the station, we boarded almost straight away — didn’t waste any time, got to our destination earlier, and even fitted in a lovely Friday night dinner in Paris ✨
❌ What you can’t do:
You can’t just turn up and board another Eurostar because a seat is free. You need to officially change your ticket first, otherwise you could be refused travel or charged a new fare.

Got excited seeing the snow and dreaming of a quick trip to Switzerland?
If I had a free weekend… this is exactly what I’d do.
✈️ Friday night: Fly to Zurich, check in, rest up.
Saturday: Head to Sattel-Hochstuckli (only ~45 mins from Zurich).
Think revolving gondola, skywalk suspension bridge, playground, sledging, easy walks, winter fun and even beginner skiing. Such a great family spot, all year round.
🫕 Don’t miss: the outdoor fondue at Mostelberg Mountain Inn.
CHF 46 per adult (includes gondola up & down). Kids ride free, and the fondue was more than enough for the three of us – honestly such a fun experience and very delicious too.
Sunday before flying home:

The Hunger Games On Stage in London gets 3 stars from me, because I expected more for all the hype. The dialogue and script didn’t keep me super engaged — and after about 30 minutes, I found myself checking the time, which is NEVER a good sign. I haven’t read the books or watched the films, and I’m not sure if that would’ve changed my opinion about the show though.
That said, the new Troubadour Theatre itself is amazing! Some of the seats actually move (including mine!), views are great from most spots, the toilets are plentiful and brand new, the location couldn’t be better, and the staff are super friendly and fast. There are also great food and drink options, the venue is fully accessible, the cloakroom is just £1 per item, and there’s parking nearby.

📚 The story is based on Suzanne Collins’ first book and Lionsgate’s first motion picture The Hunger Games. It follows the fearless heroine Katniss Everdeen on her journey of self-discovery. It’s set in Panem, a future world where every year one boy and one girl (aged 12–18) from each district are chosen to compete in the Hunger Games — an arena fight where only one person can survive.
⚠️ Content note: This production contains loud noises and explosions, haze and smoke, flashing lights and strobe, as well as depictions of violence and references to death, grief and guilt.
Would I recommend it?
🏹If you’re a huge Hunger Games fan — yes, it’s worth the experience (the theatre was clearly full of fans of the story).
🏹 If you’re going for pure theatre wow-factor — it might not blow you away.

For my son, we bought everything from and honestly… so worth it.
Our simple winter formula:
1️⃣ Thermals / base layers (top + bottoms)
2️⃣ Fleece or mid-layer
3️⃣ Waterproof ski suit or jacket + trousers
+ thermal ski socks, gloves/mittens and boots
All in, it came to around £100–£120 for a solid set-up — and he stayed warm, dry and comfortable, playing in the snow for hours.
🎿 For socks, you don’t need anything complicated — just proper thermal ski socks (merino or warm padded ones work great). They really make a difference.
🎿 You can also go second-hand (great online shops like Whoski, SlopeOff London, EcoSki) or even rent gear in the UK or in countries like Switzerland.

So many people ask me, “Is the London Eye worth it?”
My answer is always the same: yes — at least once.
I know lots of Londoners say it’s not worth it, but I disagree — especially if you’re visiting London for the first time.
The views are truly unique, and it’s still one of my favourite London landmarks. Seeing Big Ben, the River Thames and the city skyline from above just hits differently.
About the queues:
Yes, they always look long… but they move surprisingly fast. We spent about one hour in total (queue, ride, and a little browse in the shop at the end). Personally, I wouldn’t rush for fast-track unless you’re really short on time.
🎡 What it’s actually like inside:
It’s super stable, doesn’t shake at all, and you barely feel it moving — apart from the views slowly changing as you go higher. There are around 20 people per pod, and there are seats inside, which makes it great for kids, adults, and grandparents.
