What an incredible race. My first marathon since Flynn was born. I had a goal of ~3.05-3.10 so to break 3 hours is just nuts.
I seriously believe that the real marathon is the training (& the 4am alarms after waking up a thousand times with bub overnight) and the race is the victory lap. So I made sure to soak up the views, smile at every spectator, and just enjoy the day.
Flynn is 8 months old TODAY and the past two weeks have seen 3 new teeth come through, so sleep has been rough and unpredictable. He slept through until 5am last night so he really knew I needed some rest before the race.
I found a little pack and held on to them for as long as possible. We were running much faster than Iâd planned but sometimes youâve just gotta back yourself and go by feel rather than numbers and it paid off.
The finish line was bloody emotional. My quads were falling apart but I held on to finish a minute behind. What an incredible woman, breaking the marathon record at 10 months postpartum.
Seeing at the finish line brought me to tears. Heâs been my biggest supporter and every time Iâve doubted my ability, heâs reminded me of what Iâm capable of.
I bloody love running.
A week ago I did Newcastle Half Marathon and I spent more than ten mins on the toilet.
I came into the race wanting to use it as a training run for GORRF so warmed up with an easy 12km.
Standing on the start line, the event organisers explained the rolling start and how if you thought you could be chance of a podium, come to the front because top 3 will based off gun time. So after umming and ahhing I came to the front. Not because I thought I was top three shape but because I thought it would be good to have some speedy ladies to run close to.
The first 8km were fantastic. My legs and lungs felt good. I was running much faster than intended but I wasnât checking my watch. And then suddenly I was hit with the dreaded stomach pain us runners all know. There were no portaloos so I soldiered on for 3km until we got to the nobbys toilets.
After the pit stop we did a short loop of a few kilometres when my guts fired up again. I stopped at the same toilets and the feeling didnât pass. I was 15km in and I wanted to just run home. When I could finally stand up without feeling like I was going to shit my pants, I decided to just run one more kilometre and see how it felt.
I finished because Iâm pretty bloody stubborn in a time of 1.36. Initially embarrassed, but eventually proud for finishing.
Sometimes you need pretty big reminders to stick to your tried and tested carb loading plan. Bring on Great Ocean Road, lots of plain rice, and crunchy nut cornflakes 𼣠#marathontraining #7monthspostpartum
Caramel version is still my fave but caramel slice is my favourite sweet in the world.
All you need - packet of scotch fingers, can of condensed milk, 40g butter, juice of 2 lemons, 200g white chocolate and a few tbsp coconut.
Pre heat oven to 180c, lay out 12 scotch fingers. Heat up the can of condensed milk with the butter and lemon juice and whisk until thickening. Cool slightly then pour over your scotch fingers. Bake for 12 mins then cool. Top with melted chocolate and coconut! Keep in fridge or freezer đĽ°

Well, simply put thatâs just untrue. I didnât ask for a side of shame with my cheesecake but here we aređ

I caught myself saying to one of my mum friends âjust a 10kâ but I pulled myself up. In a world of marathon hype, 10k, 5k, or even 1k all deserve their moment.
My first race back since having Flynn. 4 & a bit months postpartum. I was so excited.
Running & racing are huge parts of my identity and with so much of my identity being âmumâ now, I know how important it is to do the things that make you feel like you. Even if that means your babyâs sleep schedule is fucked.
Lil Flynn decided he really did not want to be in the cot between 2-4.30am on this day, not unusual for him but when I needed to get up at 5.30, co-sleeping was not an option.
Fortunately he went back down and I did get another 40 mins sleep. I never thought that less than 6 hours would be a decent amount of sleep, let alone racing on that little sleep.
I know that not everyone is capable of moving or running like they used to postpartum for a myriad of reasons but I do think itâs important to show that itâs possible. Iâve never appreciated my body or running more than I have right now.
1st female & 7th overall. Oh & I know it was a fun run but I have a small gripe that they didnât say my name as I crossed the finish line but they did announce the first male đââď¸

Secret eating is very common in the clients I see. Often my clients donât even see it as a problem until I point it out and we delve into their thoughts and feelings around it.
Feelings of shame are front and centre, tied in with a fear of judgement from others. This fear of judgement may be rational due to their previous experience with a person but more often than not, itâs irrational and a reflection on their own judgement of themselves.
Secret eating should not be your normal. Shame reduces its power when you speak about it so please - reach out for support with a loved one, myself, or an eating disorder dietitian

I unfortunately received some comments and messages about how this video made people feel bad that they werenât able to exercise like I could. That they experienced HG, extra fatigue, or just didnât want to exercise. And all of this is okay and I empathise with anyone that goes through pregnancy. I know mine was relatively easy, but I feel like I need to say that every time.
This video wasnât a recommendation. I wasnât saying âyou should exercise through pregnancy.â It was a celebration not a cause for comparison.
Anywho wanted to share here as well because
1. Iâm still so proud of exercising up until the day of my labour
2. Comparison is the thief of joy

This is exactly what I told myself again and again throughout the Manchester Marathon. A marathon is more in your head than your body.
So when my niggles were hurting in my warm up, I blocked it out. When I thought of myself as a DNF, I blocked it out. When I imagined walking, I blocked it out.
Iâve attempted sub 3 at the 2023 Cadbury Marathon but after a terrible lead up recovering from a kidney infection I blew up at 35km and finished with a 3:05. I created a massive mental barrier for myself after this and told myself so many time that I would just never achieve it.
My headspace was pretty negative even when we were lining up to start. Henry wanted to be closer to the front, but I wouldnât join him because I felt like I didnât belong there.
The first 10km were tough. My adductor and Achilles needed the warm up that I thought they would. But from 10-30 I felt great, I was cruising. I found a bunch and tucked in with them. And suddenly I was passing people one by one.
It was only when I was at 37km that I allowed myself to think that I had done it. That I was going to do a sub 3 marathon.
I stayed present, I smiled at the INCREDIBLE crowds, I high fived the kids, I ran the mile (kilometre) I was in.
This has been my favourite running event ever and it has nothing to do with the time and everything to do with the atmosphere & experience.
A huge tick - 2:53.05. So much more than I believed I was capable of đ
Iâm still processing this day. Henry said it would go by quickly but I didnât appreciate how quickly.
10:54, 1st in my age group, 12th overall female. Gob-smacked.
A rollercoaster of a day, a challenge thatâs hard to explain. The support on the run was insane. Having strangers scream your name every lap really does something for the headspace.
I might break down the race soon but at the moment my head isnât there.
I canât express how much I appreciate everyoneâs support. The messages, emails, voice memos, and calls I got were out of this world. So many people tracking me that I would not have expected.
Big thanks to my partner Henry for being the Guinea pig last year and inspiring me to tackle the full distance. For being my teammate in all things triathlon & otherwise. For being my bike mechanic 99% of the time.
My coach, Sam, I couldnât have done this without you. You did so much more than just write a program. You cared, listened, and helped me find balance in training & life. And the pep talk on the run leg gets full credit for bringing me home.
Em & Matt,, you guys made the IM crew complete. From logistics, to capturing the content, to being a smile & wave on course.
Everyone that I trained with in the lead up and rode the waves with, thank you!!
And of course all of my friends that havenât seen me in yonks or got used to me bailing on events before dinner so I could go and eat carbs and go to bed, thank you!!
Love you all so much. Swapping the tri suit for cocktails on a Greek beach for a little while đ
