Fluctuating estrogen & progesterone can disrupt the balance of your nervous system, cortisol rhythm and even melatonin production.
🤯 You feel like Your brain can’t turn off, and your body can’t fully relax.
Eventually, everything else gets affected - especially your metabolic health, cardiovascular function, hormones and nervous system.
Here are some gentle non hormonal remedies that you can try - these can be effective for relaxation and sleep onset.
1. Magnolia Root: It also helps deactivate cortisol, your stress hormone, so your body can wind down.
2. L-Theanine: It’s An amino acid from green tea that’s calming & not stimulating. It enhances focus, and eases the physical sensations of stress.
3. Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) It’s a flower that reduces anxiety, & insomnia, it has been studied for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
4. Magnesium Glycinate / L-threonate: this form crosses the blood–brain barrier more effectively than other magnesium types.

During periods of stress, the body uses up vitamin C more quickly—adequate intake helps moderate the physiological stress response. Replenishing it helps calm the body’s stress response.
Since Vitamin C supports the adrenal glands, it also protects progesterone during the luteal phase- meaning fewer PMS symptoms & better cycle balance.
Once cortisol is regulated, it creates the environment needed for deep restful sleep, better energy levels ( no afternoon crashes ) and even better appetite regulation.

Having Sufficient Vitamin K2 intake prevents both cardiovascular disease and aortic calcification by almost 50%!
This is specifically important if you are taking High doses of Vitamin D ( which I don’t recommend )
Here’s why:
Vitamin D3 increases calcium absorption from the gut. High calcium levels can cause Kidney stones, Soft-tissue and arterial calcification.
👉 so Without K2, extra calcium from D3 may end up in places you don’t want it such as arteries / kidneys.
Vitamin K2 helps move calcium into bones & teeth and keep it out of arteries + soft tissues. It prevent arterial calcification by keeping calcium out of blood vessel walls.
The best combination would be a D3 with K2 in MK-7 form.
Consult with your doctor for the appropriate dose depending on your current vitamin D levels.
❌❌ Avoid K2 if you’re on blood thinners like warfarin unless supervised by a doctor.

If you want to make some twists, you can also add some chocolate chips / or 1/4 cup maple syrup for extra sweetness.
Recipe:
Mash 2 bananas, add in 2 eggs & mix.
Add 1 cup Almond / peanut butter, 1 lemon zest & 1 cup blueberries, & mix all together.
Transfer to muffin tins & bake for 15 min at 180 degrees.
Enjoy! 😬
Let me know when you try it! Xxx
1. The Form
2. The Quality
3. The Duration
4. The Timing
Form: We have to be able to convert them from the form in which they enter our body into the final active form for cellula use.
For example, when taking B vitamins - choose bioavailable forms as many people are poor converters to the most active form. The biggest culprits are B6 (choose P5P), B9 (choose methylfolate), and B12 (choose methylcobalamin).
Quality: choose High quality supplement lines with minimal binders, fillers & with more bioavailable ingredients
Timings: The timing Matters! For example Vitamin D & B12 should be taken in the morning as they can interfere with Sleep. Fat-soluble vitamins need to be ingested along with fat to maximize absorption. Those require strong stomach acid to be activated to allow intestinal absorption.
Duration: You need to have a protocol & know how long you to keep taking each supplement. For example too much vitamin D in the body can become toxic! You might need to re test & see whether your levels have become optimal / or if you are having problems with absorption/ and when you need to taper to maintenance dose.
We also need give the liver/kidneys a break, and/or replenish enzymes used up in the metabolism of supplements.
Supplements, especially things like herbs, also have to be cleared by the liver, just like anything else so the body can become overwhelmed
I always recommend you have a supplement protocol rather supplementing blindly.
👉🏻 Because Your perimenopausal body needs completely different strategic plans!
1. Under-eating in general or being in an extreme calorie deficit & not consuming enough protein increases Cortisol ( stress hormone): this affects your sleep, mood, muscle mass and increases belly fat retention
2. Cutting carbs completely from your diet: with a Very low carb intake the body perceives it as stress, Hence cortisol rises & steals progesterone - Low carbs can lower T3 (active thyroid hormone) & weaken ovulation
3. Salads are not meals: they don’t always contain adequate amounts of protein. So hello blood sugar & afternoon crashes 🫠
4. Intense cardio & HIIT drive inflammation & stress hormones through the roof! Those may be making your bloating & indigestion worse
5. Why I love rest days: Without rest, Cortisol stays elevated, Progesterone is diverted to make cortisol hence Sleep & mood suffer- Rest days tell the body that you’re safe, so cortisol drops & hormones rebalance.
Can you relate?
Calcium: Magnesium & calcium are both essential minerals, but they compete for the same absorption pathways in your body.Taking them together can limit how much your body absorbs of each. To avoid this, them at least 2-3 hours apart.
Iron: it’s vital for red blood cell production, but if you take it alongside magnesium, you could reduce its absorption. Magnesium can form insoluble complexes with iron, which means your body may not absorb as much iron as it needs.
Zinc: Zinc competes with magnesium for absorption in the small intestine, which can lead to lower levels of magnesium if taken together. it’s best to wait 3-4 hours between taking zinc and magnesium, allowing your body to absorb each effectively.

The progesterone fall-off begins around day 21 (the mid-point of the luteal phase and the typical start of the “PMS” window), you might experience more of bloating, mood swings, sleep disturbances such as waking up between 2 and 4 am, breast tenderness, & weight gain as well.
Few things you can do to optimize progesterone starting in the Luteal phase:
👉🏻 Take Vitamin C & increase vitamin C rich foods
👉🏻 Increase Zinc, B6 & magnesium
👉🏻 Reduce Stress ( try ashwagandha) & intense physical exercise
👉🏻 Try vitex supplement ( note that it does not
Work for everyone & might increase anxiety in some people )
👉🏻 Avoid underrating & increase protein, good carbs & healthy fats
👉🏻 prioritize Sleep ( 7-9 hours!)
There is so much you can do to ease this transition! Here are some supplements ( in addition to Lifestyle & Nutrition changes ) that can actually help minimize symptoms, and support you physically and mentally.
Are you taking any of those?

It might help improve insulin signaling as it helps modulate microbiome diversity for a short period of time.
That’s why it is not recommended for long term “management” of elevated blood sugar. It can be used as a supportive remedy mostly for 2-3 months.
Berberine may cause gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea / constipation. It is best tolerated if taken in cycles of ~3 weeks with a couple of weeks off in between to allow the microbiome to recover.
