Many people ask me… what can you do with a small square doily?
Here’s one of my favorite ideas — turn it into a coaster 🤍
Tatted with cotton thread, it’s practical, beautiful, and adds a soft handmade touch to your daily moments. Choose your own colors and it becomes a thoughtful, personal gift for family and friends.
The Antonia Magic Square pattern is in my Etsy store. You can:
▫️ Tat a small piece as a coaster
▫️ Make a larger version as a placemat
▫️ Frame it as a delicate wall decoration
The magic square method is not as complicated as it looks — just follow the instructions and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of tatting.

Thank you so much for waiting. This motif is definitely an easy one for all of you to try. It’s also a great time to practice SCMR too!
I hope you will enjoy this little motif.
Please tag me when you are done with your Verdalet!
Excuse me for the short video in this post, I should set the width for IG post… I was so used to do video editing for youtube … 😓Now, the sides of the clip were cropped.

I’ve been experimenting with this design lately. Yesterday was all about beads, but today I tried a version without them and modified the ring sizes.
I am so happy with how it turned out! It’s such a versatile little piece—perfect for earrings, rings, pendants, or even a delicate bracelet.
I’m currently working on a FREE pattern so you can all try it too! Give me a little time to get the diagrams, instructions, and videos ready for you.
Who’s ready to get some SCMR practice in? Let me know in the comments.

I used the SCMR method to complete the design, and I’m quite happy with the result. It was fun to make, though a few stitches may need slight adjustments for an even cleaner finish.
It could work beautifully as earrings, a pendant, or even a small bracelet motif—possibly even a ring.
(the upper light gold one was not very satisfying, but the lower silver one was good!)

These are even smaller than the one that I used for my glasses chain. The size of the glass “bead” is 10 x 13 mm only. Probably I shall use even smaller beads so that it will not hide the bead too much 😓
I was playing around with different beads and wanted to see the results. I am going to use them to make a ring and a pendant.
Stay tune and wait for the final result!:)

This Versatile Chain is a piece I’m making for myself, and perhaps that’s why every part of the process feels especially enjoyable and meaningful.
I used metallic thread (by ) with Miyuki beads, crystal round beads, glass pearl beads, and also wrapped glass gems with the metallic thread and beads. I’ve been really enjoying experimenting with these materials together.
What I love most is this deep, dark tone touched with purple — it gives the piece a romantic vintage jewel feeling, like something quietly elegant with a little mystery
It’s still not finished yet. I’d like to add a few more motifs at the ends so it can be worn either as a glasses chain for as a necklace
I can’t wait to finish it and wear it.

Tiana was the latest one she released today, and I simply couldn’t resist trying it right away. It is such a delightfully quick design to tat — delicate, dainty, and full of charm. I can already picture this lovely little motif being adapted into bracelet charms as well.
Thank you, Tiffany, for so generously sharing this sweet free pattern with the tatting community. I am certain many tatters will enjoy making it.
For Tiana, I used Calais metallic thread (thin version, 3 strands), Toho seed beads 15/0, and 4mm glass pearl beads from Kiwa Seisakujo.
The design is by Richard Embrey, and it uses the Helix tatting technique to create a clever 3D form.
Helix tatting is quite new to me, and it was very interesting to work with five shuttles for this shrimp. Some people might feel intimidated when they see a pattern requiring five shuttles, but honestly, it’s not as complicated as it looks. For helix tatting, I would even say it feels quite manageable and enjoyable!
Richard is truly talented for using this technique to bring the shrimp to life. I especially love the picot feet — they are so cute and surprisingly realistic!

A special thank-you to my tatting friend who showed me how to tat this shrimp and generously shared many helpful tips along the way. I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful tatting buddy, even from miles away!

With beautiful hand dyed thread by Ju.
Really enjoyable to tat this doily.
I am still thinking if I should add this pattern to my future book, or put it on my Etsy shelf.
