With A Heatwave Coming Up Across The UK ☀️ Here Are A Few Simple Ways To Help Keep Your Baby Cool And Comfortable This Summer 👶🏼

☀️ Choose Light Coloured Clothes
Light colours reflect heat better than dark colours, and loose breathable fabrics like cotton can help stop your baby overheating.

☀️ Ditch The Carrier On Hot Days
Baby carriers can trap a lot of heat between you and your baby, especially during warmer weather. On really hot days, a pram with airflow may be the cooler option.

☀️ Sun Cream From 6 Months+
Babies under 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight as much as possible. Once over 6 months, use a baby-friendly SPF alongside hats, shade and lightweight clothing.

☀️ Offer Regular Fluids
Breastmilk and formula are usually enough for younger babies, but they may want feeds more often in hot weather. Older babies can also have small sips of water with meals.

☀️ Add A Pram Fan
A pram fan can help air circulate and keep your little one cooler. Just make sure it’s securely attached and safely out of reach.

☀️ Use An Air Permeable Pram Shade
Use an air permeable sun shade rather than covering the pram with blankets or muslins, as covering it completely can trap heat inside.

☀️ Cool Baths Before Bed
A lukewarm bath can help bring their body temperature down and make bedtime a little more comfortable after a hot day. Remember it should still be at least 36C

Save This For The Heatwave 🔥☀️

First Birthday Gifts My Baby Actually Still Plays With

📦 Tonies Box – one of our most used toys. It’s brilliant for independent play, quiet time and bedtime routines. My girls love listening to stories and songs, and it’s nice having a screen-free option they can control themselves.

🛝 Slide – such a good energy burner, especially on rainy days. It helps build confidence, balance and climbing skills while still feeling really fun for them. We’ve had way more use out of ours than I expected.

👣Walker – perfect around the early walking stage. It encourages confidence with standing and walking while also helping them carry toys around and stay entertained for longer.

🕳️ Play Tunnel – one of those toys that somehow never gets boring 😅 Great for crawling, hide and seek, imaginative play and even making little dens or obstacle courses as they get older.

🫧 Bubble Gun – honestly one of the easiest ways to keep toddlers entertained 😂 Great for outdoor play, encouraging movement and getting them excited to run, jump and chase bubbles around.

I feel like the best first birthday gifts are the ones they actually keep reaching for months later 🤍

Sun safety with babies and toddlers can feel so overwhelming, especially during warmer weather ☀️ These timings are only a rough guide and will vary depending on the UV level, temperature, time of day and how much shade is available.

0–6 months: ideally babies this young should avoid direct sunlight where possible, as their skin is extremely delicate and burns very quickly. Short periods outside are absolutely fine, but try to keep them mainly in the shade with a sun hat, lightweight clothing and airflow around the pram.

6–12 months: older babies can usually tolerate slightly longer periods outdoors, but still need regular breaks from the heat. After around 10–20 minutes in direct sun, move to a shaded area, offer fluids and reapply sun cream if needed.

1–2 years: toddlers are often constantly moving, running around and less aware when they’re getting too hot. Around 20–30 minutes in direct sun at a time is usually plenty before encouraging a shaded break, cooling down and offering water.

2+ years: older children can generally manage longer periods outdoors, but they still need regular hydration and shade breaks, especially during peak UV hours. Even confident swimmers and active toddlers can overheat quicker than adults realise.

Signs your little one may be getting too hot can include flushed cheeks, damp hair, fussiness, lethargy or fewer wet nappies. Always use at least SPF 30+ with UVA/UVB protection, hats, lightweight clothing and plenty of fluids ☀️🩷

Dressing babies for summer can feel SO confusing when the temperature keeps changing ☀️🥵

This is a rough guide I use to help dress my little ones comfortably during warmer weather, but always check your baby rather than just the forecast

A good way to check if your baby is too hot or cold is by feeling their chest or back (not hands and feet, as they’re often cooler naturally).

A few extra summer reminders:
• avoid thick padded pram inserts in hot weather
• keep babies out of direct sun where possible
• use breathable fabrics like cotton or bamboo
• babies under 6 months should be kept shaded from direct sunlight

Every baby is different, so you may need to adjust layers depending on wind, shade, naps or how active they are ☀️

This taste safe “ice cream” play was such a hit 🍦🤍

All you need:
• 1 pot of frosting
• 3/4 cup cornflour (bake at 180°C for 5 minutes first to make it taste safe)

Mix together until you get a soft, scoopable texture. You can add sprinkles, bowls, scoops and cones for extra fun ✨

Perfect for sensory play, imaginative play and little ones who still love exploring with their mouths 👶🏼

Always supervise during sensory play and check ingredients for allergens before use.

The Aldi outdoor wooden toy event is officially on and honestly… it’s one of the best ones yet 🪵🤎

So many gorgeous outdoor toys for summer play — mud kitchens, climbing frames, playhouses, picnic benches and more 🌿☀️ Most of the bigger items sell out SO quickly every year, so definitely worth having a look early if you’ve been thinking about updating your garden setup for the kids.

The event runs from 18th May while stocks last 🫶

Walking is such a huge milestone, but there are so many little skills babies learn before those first independent steps 👣🤍

🚢 Cruising helps build balance and leg strength as they move sideways holding onto furniture.
🫴🏻Reaching while standing encourages weight shifting and confidence taking pressure off both hands.
🪑 Moving between furniture helps babies practice balance and short unsupported movements.
👣Lifting one leg at a time strengthens coordination needed for stepping forwards.
🧸 Holding toys while standing encourages stability and balance without relying fully on their hands for support.

Every baby learns to walk in their own time, so try not to compare 🤍 Lots of floor play, barefoot time and opportunities to explore safely can really help build confidence naturally.
