On a platform saturated with fitness content that can often look identical, I get more and more questions about how and why is different from other Pilates and strength platforms.

I like to use this idea as an example, because it’s not just about the exact exercise itself. It’s about the cueing and the sequencing of what comes before and after, so you get the absolute most out of 10 reps instead of wasting time doing nothing for 100.

We’re a team in class. I give, you give, and together we get results. 🤝

Because stabilizer muscles care less about weight and more about direction, tension, and control, AND building them first creates the foundation that larger, superficial muscles rely on.

If you grow the outer muscles without reinforcing the deep, inner ones, your body’s structure will eventually break down (maybe not this year or next, but down the line, when you need that support the most). Working the stabilizers first is what makes strength safe, effective, and sustainable.

Just a little food for thought before you pick up that heavy dumbbell without finding consistency with workouts.

When I tell you this is the most requested dessert in my household, I am not exaggerating. Justin said to me the other day “How hard is it to get ahold of purple sweet potatoes? Because we need this in our fridge at all times”.

This recipe is incredibly easy, stunningly vibrant, packed with fiber and nutrients, and absolutely delicious. One bite in and you’ll be emotionally invested in purple sweet potatoes too.

Super Simple Sweet Potato Pie:

Ingredients:
5 medium purple sweet potatoes, baked and mashed
1.5 pre-made pie crusts
2 cups milk of choice (I use A2 2% milk)
½ cup coconut sugar
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup spelt flour
2 tsp cinnamon (I forgot it this time and it was still great)
¼ tsp salt

Directions:
1. Boil or bake the purple sweet potatoes until fork-tender (about 20–30 minutes). Mash well and let cool slightly.
2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix until smooth. (A chef might say to mix wet ingredients first, then add the sweet potatoes, followed by the dry—but honestly, it all comes together just fine in one bowl.)
3. Roll out the pie crust and press it into a 9×13-inch baking dish. I don’t pre-bake the crust, but if you prefer a crispier base, follow the crust’s pre-baking instructions.
4. Pour in the filling and bake at 350 degrees for 45–50 minutes, until set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Best topped with some homemade whipped cream (Justin’s contribution).

I know at least half of you seeing this (probs more) are sitting down, so let’s talk hip flexors—and this stretch progression.

The ball can sometimes make a stretch more accessible, but in this case, it actually makes it more challenging. Here’s when to use the ball and when to ditch it and hit the floor:

On the floor: Best for those with tight hip flexors, sensitive lower backs, postpartum mamas, and beginner movers. The floor provides max stability, making it easier to maintain alignment and extend the leg cleanly.

On the ball: Best for advanced movers who can maintain pelvic and core control in extension. Elevating the pelvis increases the range of motion, demanding deeper core engagement and turning this into a true strength and mobility exercise.

So, take a sec to find which variation works best for you. (And if you’re somewhere you’d never in a million years lay on the floor, at the very least, stand up for a quick moment and give your body a little length)

I have this conversation several times a week with new app members, because it can be tricky to know when a prop is supportive, and when it’s better to ditch it altogether. Use this as a simple guide:

On the floor:
Best for beginners, anyone rebuilding foundational strength (postpartum repair, rehab, etc.), and those with lower-back sensitivities.

On the ball:
Best for advanced movers, progressing strength, endurance, and control, and adding intensity without adding load.

Key cues to keep both options effective and safe:
• Find a neutral spine
• Focus on three-dimensional breathing for core support
• Ditch the weights if you feel back strain or lose connection to your core
• Move within your own range of motion (bigger doesn’t mean better)

So, which position will you be focusing on in your next class?!

🚨FLASH SALE! Use code MYMONTH at checkout for a FREE month!

Now that it’s January 5th it feels like the perfect time to set a few intentions and create a plan that’s both realistic and impactful. For me, that looks like recommitting to consistent daily movement and bringing me back into sync with my body after a month of holiday mayhem.

In previous years, we kicked off our 30-Day Restart Program on January 1st. What I’ve learned, though, is that day one of the new year can carry a lot of pressure. Many of us are still with family, traveling, or out of our normal routines, which can make it feel like you’re already starting behind.

So this year, we’re doing things a bit differently. First off, we’re starting today, a few days into 2026. The program still includes 30 days of movement, with classes ranging from 6 to 30 minutes. I’ve curated it all so you can truly get a little bit of everything has to offer. The other big difference is that this year…IT’S FREE!

That’s right, for one day only we are extending our usual 7-day free trial to a full 30 days! Join me and our amazing community in this special program and then explore the 1000 unique classes on the best reviewed low-impact workout app in the world.

See you on the mat!

It’s no surprise that I love our weighted ball so much - but it’s not just because I made it with love, sweat, and tears. This little accessible prop has the magical ability to fundamentally change an exercise, making it not only more challenging, but also more effective and smart.

In this exercise, the addition of the ball goes far beyond “it’s harder.” Here’s why:

1. Your pelvis is supported in neutral: The ball helps organize the spine into alignment without aggressively bracing into the floor or flaring the ribs.
2. Deep core activation: The subtle instability recruits the deep stabilizers before the arms even begin to move, creating important foundational support.
3. Improved shoulder mechanics: With the pelvis supported and the ribs more naturally stacked, the shoulders stay out of an over-compressed position (think better chest activation with less neck and shoulder tension).
4. Access to extension without collapsing: The ball allows a gentle opening through the front of the body without dumping into the low back.
5. Movement becomes full-body: What was once just an arm exercise becomes a full-body workout: legs root, glutes assist, the core responds dynamically, and breath moves in a truly three-dimensional way.

And just like in every class, there’s always a modification. My beginner B’s, start with your body on the floor to build a strong foundation, then graduate to the ball when you’re ready.

Thoughts on ball or no ball?!

The difference is...space. What do I mean? Well, I feel more connected, resilient, confident, wiser, stronger, sexier in my own skin and so much more, but most of all, I feel at peace with who I am. And this is giving me space for so much more. Space to grow. I love my forties and I love growing with all of you! Thank you for your beautiful birthday messages!

I had a first-time, in-person client come to the studio last week and one of her biggest “aha” moments was the importance of this ball placement. Here’s how I explained it to her:

Under your lower back/lumbar spine: A modification for those with back pain, as it provides extra support. But be careful, this position often puts the spine in an arch/extension or a pelvic tuck.

Under your tailbone/sacrum: The ideal position because it…
a) keeps your body long and in neutral,
b) helps you build deep core strength and stability,
c) improves overall pelvic health and mobility,
d) enhances hip and spinal balance thanks to the (good) instability of the ball that adds challenge,
e) and activates the glute muscles.

So… have you been placing the ball in the right spot? Let’s chat about it in the comments.
