✅ After defeating the Lamite’s guards, the accursed Kryptonian races back to the Society’s castle. He smashes through the door and charges headfirst into a gauntlet of henchmen—who shoot, bomb, and blast the Alien to absolutely no effect. And just when it seems nothing can stop him… a trapdoor opens beneath his feet.
😈 This chapter of The Chosen is widely attributed to Wayne Boring as penciler, with Don Komisarow on inks. The figures grow sturdier, the action relentless, and Superman himself moves ever closer to the iconic look the world would come to recognize for decades.
✅ This week’s cover is once again by Jorge Jiménez, showing the Man of Steel doing what he does best: helping everyone around him. Classic. The image comes from his beautiful “Superman in Granada” story, featured in Superman: The World (2025).
😈What’s “Superman Sundays”? Each week I revisit a Golden Age Superman newspaper strip (1939–1966)—where it all began: the Daily Planet, Krypton’s lore, bald Luthor, Mxyzptlk, and more. After 35 years as a Superman collector, I’m reading them one Sunday at a time.

🚨 SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨
✅ This issue was an absolute blast. From Superman’s vision of paradise, to Hal Jordan’s Black Mercy trick (I truly don’t know why anyone still thinks that trick works— the accursed Kryptonian has beaten it many times by now), to that amazing Shazam power-up… I couldn’t put this issue down for a second.
Is it perfect? Probably not. The pacing is relentless and occasionally confusing, the spectacle is dialed to eleven, and the “rules” feel almost nonexistent. But personally? I’m embracing that as part of the fun.
It strongly reminded me of Emperor Joker from 25 years ago. Did it make much sense? Not really. Was it outrageous and wildly entertaining? Absolutely. So yes—seeing Emperor Joker show up here genuinely made my day.
😈 The mad-geniuses behind this event are really knocking it out of the park for me, maybe because I’m a child of the90’s, but Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, Javier Fernandez, Xermanico, Alejandro Sanchez and everyone else: Thank you!!! 🙏🏼 By the way, the beautiful Dan Mora cover on this post is for issue No. 4, which comes out next month on February 11th.
✅ With the final two issues ahead, the fight with the Absolute Trinity next issue, —and the upcoming specials like Boss Battle, where we’ll see Superman vs. Homelander, and The Boys Are All Fight—this event looks ready to keep pushing things even further. More chaos. More punches. Less restraint. And frankly, I’m all in.

Comic: Action Comics N52 #42
✅ As the firing squad opens fire, the accursed Kryptonian burrows underground to face them. One by one they fall, until only Grizzack remains. Refusing to flee, the hunchback fires at the helpless Ronaldson, with Superman on the other side of the large field… but, as we know, the Man of Tomorrow is faster than the bullet itself.
The Alien races the shot across the field, catches the bullet in his teeth, and hurls it back—stunning Grizzack and ending the execution in a single, humiliating instant. Ronaldson lives, for now…
😈 Behind the scenes, this strip marks a turning point. This is chapter of The Chosen is widely attributed to Wayne Boring as penciler, with Don Komisarow likely on inks—quietly replacing Paul Cassidy and Paul Lauretta. The figures grow sturdier, the action broader, the Superman closer to the iconic look that would define the character for decades.
✅ This week’s cover is once again by Jorge Jiménez, beautifully contrasting a meek Clark Kent with a hopeful, energized Superman. Classic. This is a variant cover for Action Comics ).

✅ Written by Gunn himself, I really enjoyed this movie. And this scene in particular was amazing, and probably one of my favorite moments after over 35 years of reading the character’s adventures. If you haven’t seen the BTS footage showing the discussion between David Corenswet and James Gunn to get to this scene, you should look it up. It really shows how much thought & care these two uber talented artists put into the scene, and the movie as a whole.
😈 What did you think about this movie? Did you like it as much as I did? Did you hate it? It’s all good, we won’t judge (much) 😊. Let’s talk in the comments below

✅ I’ve seen it dozens of times already. And I love many elements of it: The tone is really reminiscent of the graphic novel, and the aesthetic is similar to this year’s Superman movie, but looks… rougher? And of course: Lobo looks amazing.
😈 I was already looking forward to it, but this teaser did its job: Now I’m dying to see the full movie. Now, what about you? What did you think?
