A few things to know before you go โคต๏ธ๏ฟฝ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ
๐ Weekends are already extremely busy. I was here just days before the reopening (Thursday through Saturday), and Saturday was packed.๏ฟฝ๐จ Lodging and restaurant options in Big Sur are very limited, so plan ahead. Staying in nearby Monterey or Carmel-by-the-Sea is a great option.๏ฟฝ๐ฅช Pack food and water for the drive. There are long stretches without services.๏ฟฝ๐ต There is little to no cell service between Ragged Point and Carmel Highlands, so download maps ahead of time and donโt rely on signal.
Big Sur is best experienced slowly. Plan ahead, give yourself extra time, and treat the drive as the destination.

What you need to know about visiting Yosemite National Park this winter:

โ๏ธ Make sure your vehicle is equipped to drive on snow and ice. This means having good tires with plenty of tread, as well as any necessary tire chains. Itโs also a good idea to keep a shovel, a flashlight, and extra blankets in your car in case of emergency.
โ๏ธ Not sure if you need chains? Call (press 1 then 1) for the most up-to-date conditions. Please note that tire chains should be carried in your vehicle in Yosemite during the cold winter months as they can be required at any time (even if your car is AWD).
๐ฅ Not sure if thereโs enough snow in the Valley? Check the webcams.
๐ Plan your route carefully. Be aware of road closures. You can find out more information on the Yosemite NPS site.
โฐ Take your time. Winter driving can be slippery and unpredictable, so itโs important to slow down and leave plenty of room between you and other vehicles.

The Shoseian Whispering Pine Japanese Tea House sits inside Brand Park and feels like stepping into Japan.
