Koyasan staat bekend om de tempelovernachtingen die je er kunt doen, maar daarvoor moet je tegenwoordig de jackpot betalen. Wij besloten dan ook om het anders te doen en boekten een cabin met sauna in het bos en dat was heerlijk. Na een dag tempelhoppen, ploften we met een Bento-box op de tatami-matten in de cabin en genoten we van een sauna en plungepool.

Wanneer je aan Japan denkt, is Mount Fuji waarschijnlijk een van de eerste dingen waar je aan denkt. Dat snappen we. Deze heilige reus is niet alleen de hoogste berg van Japan, maar heeft ook de perfecte symmetrische kegelvorm, wat vrij uniek is! 🇯🇵
Wij trokken twee volle dagen uit om de vijf meren rondom Mount Fuji en de omgeving te ontdekken. Eerlijk? Dat was wat ons betreft net iets te lang.
We hopten van meer naar meer, bezochten de Chureito Pagode voor zonsopgang, wandelde bij de Shiraito watervallen, hopten langs de bekende fotospots en ontdekten de leukste koffiespots. Dat alles om Mount Fuji van elke mogelijke hoek te bewonderen. Maar als je hem gezien hebt, dan heb je hem ook wel gezien! 🙈
Volgende keer blijven wij dus zeker minder lang hangen op deze plek. Met wie zou jij Mount Fuji willen bezoeken en hoelang zou jij dan blijven? ❤️

Je zou er misschien niet zo snel aan denken bij een rondreis door Japan en juist daarom gingen wij op pad met een camper. Urenlang rijden door bossen, op zoek naar natuurgeweld, stoppen om te eten bij locals, tot rust komen bij tempels op onverwachte plekken en wakker worden waar we maar willen. Japan beschikt namelijk over honderden Michi-no-Eki’s (road stations) waar je gratis kan slapen. Ook leuk voor je portemonnee dus! 🇯🇵 Ohja, we huurden onze camper bij en die service was fantastisch.

Stop dan nu met twijfelen. Wij boekten ons wandelavontuur met en hoefden zo helemaal niks uit te zoeken, want alles werd tot in de puntjes voor ons geregeld. Een food pack, hutten, de route inclusief gidsen en het vervoer van en naar het vliegveld. Chill toch! 🚍
Een week lang niets anders dan hoogvlaktes, fjorden, meren, gletsjers, hutten (of tent) op de mooiste plekken, goede gesprekken, flauwe moppen en oké een paar blaren en een mental break down. Dat laatste vergeet je overigens snel weer als je naar de waanzinnige vergezichten kijkt 😉

The Norway Trail van voelt alweer maanden geleden als je het mij vraagt. Toch was ik er afgelopen zomer pas. De chaos van een verbouwing, weken leven uit een koffer hoppend van vrienden naar familie, een overweldigende reis door Japan en andere uitdagingen maken dat ik ondertussen heel erg terug verlang naar de stilte op het Hardangervidda plateau in Noorwegen. Want dat was fijn ❤️
Voor nu hou ik het bij wandelingen dichterbij huis, in elk geval tot ons huisje helemaal af is 😉
