A flyer is a great way to raise awareness for your pet, and sites like Canva make the process simple! Add a picture of your animal, a brief description of why people should donate, and a QR code so the process to donate is simple.
Check to see if a local business would be willing to hang up your flyer, put one in your office, or share them on social media!
Need help with creating a QR code? Message us with the name of your pet and we’ll be happy to help!
Also, QR codes are so cool; they’re perfect for physically scanning but, did you know, you can also save your graphic and access it through your camera roll by long-pressing the code? Sending your graphic to your friends or family means they can also access it online!
The Top Dogs (and Cats) from last year have set the bar high, but Week One has left us confident that this year’s contest will be another nail-biter that helps us rescue, provide care, and give community guidance to assist and save more than 1,000 animals annually in our community.
Each vote is $1 toward our mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Educate!
In addition to fame and bragging rights, the Top 13 win a Pet Photoshoot with the incredibly talented Black and Hue Photography, giving them precious photos to last a lifetime, and their favorite photo from the session will be either the cover or one of the 2027 calendar months.
The Top Three will also look out over Tallahassee from a billboard promoting next year’s calendar contest!

Saylor has been with us for three years, after her previous owner moved and couldn’t take her with. Sweet and sassy, she’s ruled our office space and makes her requests well-known with a craggily meow or a well placed swipe.
Still, we love her all the same.
She is up for adoption, but is overlooked because she is a little uptight and easily misunderstood. Saylor is a sweet cat, though, and will happily lay in your lap, demanding pets, or to be brushed with her special duck-shaped brush. Her favorite toy currently is a jingly stuffed garlic on a stick, and she loves to sit in her box! She’s a special girl who eventually deserves a home to call her own.
Everyone say happy birthday to Saylor!
This month we’re highlighting our fourth place winner in our annual Paw Prints Calendar contest, the beautiful Tate B Cumbercat! She helped raise over $3,500 for us, which all goes back towards our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and educate!
A little about Tate from her parent:
“Tate loves more than anything to be outside in her catio. She is an avid hunter who spends hours looking at birds and scampering after anything walking, crawling, slinking or flying. When she is not in her catio, she looks out the window from her cat tree. Tate has a quirky name because her pet pawrent has a fascination with a certain British actor. And Tate goes sleuthing just like Sherlock. We almost lost her at nine months because she chewed and swallowed up three feet of yarn. All we could think of, with anxiety overwhelming us, was “she is too little to have to go through this procedure.” Opening up her stomach then has not deterred her from having a very healthy appetite now. At three, she enjoys chasing a laser light, having belly rubs and meowing softly to ask for more Temptation treats while giving a seductive look to whoever is nearby. One visitor who came to our home said, “she looks like she knows she can get anything she wants.” Probably true.”
Our Paw Prints calendar contest returns NEXT MONTH!! We’re gearing up and getting excited to see all the cute pets entered, and we hope you are too!
We wanted you to end your week with a happy tail about a cat that was in our program for a while. Bojangles was found in the Bojangles parking lot (and given a very fitting name), where she instantly ran past a piece of chicken into her finder’s arms. Upon intake, we realized she was suffering from a common flea allergy and other allergies, so she was put on allergy shots to get her condition under control. A costly and tedious course of action, but one that greatly helped her allergies and led her to an itch-free life.
She was very much loved by her foster mother, and once she was given a clean bill of health, was adopted by her. Here’s a snippet of her adoption update:
“Bo runs the household, putting the other cats in their place! She constantly purrs and will bring her favorite toy, currently a little stuffed sushi, to me all the time; proudly meowing about her catch. She loves to lay in the sun and look out the window, but is very content to stay inside. Her favourite pastime is to ask for cuddles and give me kisses, or lay in my lap. She is the perfect cat!”
Bojangles is a testament of how LCHS will go above and beyond to help each animal in their care, no matter the cost. We also greatly appreciate our wonderful fosters, who don’t shy away from giving medication when needed!
Meet Cheesecake! This adorable pup is around 16 weeks old and is searching for his forever home.
He’s great with other animals, kids, and enjoys playing with other dogs! Just like your typical puppy he is playful and rambunctious, but knows when it’s time to rest and loves to snuggle. One of his favorite pastimes is playing tug-of-war with a toy, and he’s pretty smart; already learning what ‘no’ means.
Cheesecake would do great with a family who has a dog already for him to play with, or with someone who is active enough to keep him engaged. He’s looking for his person to spend time with and would prefer to always be by your side, but is also crate-trained.

And our amazing fosters help us by allowing us to take in more animals in need.
We truly are appreciative of each and every one of our volunteers and fosters!
