june recap 🌞✨ - long distance debut, kona qualifier & back to reality 🙂‍↕️

looking back, it would have been smarter to ask for swimming advice rather than a picture 🤔
i get your ‘for a woman’ comment, you get more lung capacity, red blood cells and muscle mass - and the view of my back in the race 💅✨

little lena would be proud and that‘s all that matters. ❤️
you‘re capable of much more than you think, trust me.🙂‍↕️🩷🌺
Don‘t know how to fuel for a long distance triathlon? This is how I did it. 🤝

Kept it simple in the morning with a bowl of cereals, then 45min before the start an Intensity Bar and sipping on a bottle with 40g Fast Carb while waiting for the swim start.

For T1 (long one in Hamburg 😅), I had a flask with electrolytes ready + one Gel40 before getting on the bike. On the bike I switched between Power Carb and Fast Carb, and also had an Intensity Bar - always like to get something solid in as well.

Started the run with another flask of electrolytes which I finished early, then went through 5 Gel40 and just topped up with water + electrolytes from the aid stations (unfortunaly not which my stomach didn’t like 🙂‍↕️)

Felt strong and energized almost all the way through - still need to get a bit better at handling higher fluid intake on the run, but overall really happy with how the fueling worked out. Not a surprise though. 😉💚

i would’ve never made it to that finish line on my own. not in the race and not in the months before.

there were so many people around me who helped me through doubts, overthinking and last‑minute chaos. this sport is insanely complex: from equipment choices to race nutrition, from logistics to tiny details in race prep…there are a thousand things that can go wrong.

i received crazy amounts of support and kind words from everyone following along, plus new partners believing in what I do. it blows my mind, because to me it still feels like I “go out and train a bit”.

this will always be our race, not just mine. with love, lena 🩷
June 7th, 2026 - the day I became an Ironman and qualified for Kona 🥹🌺🏝️

The day started in the water, and it quickly became a test of staying calm and focused. After 1.5k the conditions got choppy with a lot of “contact“ with people pulling my legs multiple times, swallowing water, but I tried to stay composed and kept moving forward. Not the swim I was aiming for, but a solid start to the day. (1:15)

The bike demanded patience. 163w average (2.9w/kg) resulting in 33 km/h shows how this new course really is - long city sections, countless turns, and headwind out on the dike made it hard to find any real rhythm. I stayed controlled and defensive, focused on my numbers, and just kept riding my race. And seeing how many people got flats out there, I was simply grateful to make it through without any issues. swipe to slide 5 to see how lucky i was. (5:20)

Started the run in 4th in my age group and worked my way forward. Ran the first lap with a quite tight back, but in lap 2 it opened up and I found a strong, steady rhythm. For a long time it felt controlled and smooth, holding around 4:30-4:40/km without even looking at the watch. I had the best time in lap 2 & 3, seeing so many well-known faces cheering me on and hearing my name. After 30k it became a real fight - nausea kicked in, fueling stopped working, and from 38k onwards it was all about pushing through and not giving in as i was so close to collapsing. after 10 hours and 16 minutes i ran onto the red carpet. “lena, you are an ironman“ (3:27)

Sub-10 would’ve been nice - but yesterday reminded me that this sport is about much more than a time. A lot can happen during a 3.8 k swim, 180 k bike and a 42 k run - finishing is never guaranteed.

Grateful to have finished. Grateful for a body that kept going. Grateful for everyone that supported me. Because:

“Without your friends, without your family - there is no Ironman“
