At the Edge of Where God Built, أخر ما عمر الله, undertakes a critical examination of L.E.FT Architects’ diverse body of work from the past decade, reorganizing their designs, research, and pedagogy around five key Arabic spatial terms grounded in the Islamic geographies of the Middle East and North Africa: mataf (circumambulation space), jami (mosque space), riwaq (a courtyard’s colonnade), dar (domestic space), and khirba (a ruin). Through detailed case studies, theoretical reflections, and design analysis, At the Edge of Where God Built reveals how L.E.FT’s praxis translates linguistic and historical knowledge to generate architectural strategies and investigations.

Detail from a photograph by photographer Laurian Ghinitoiu, depicting aspects from "Jerba 366: Gravel Mosque", a project that was led by architect, artist and academic Ziad Jamaledinne, together with L.E.FT Architects, Makram el-Kadi, architecture historian Iheb Guermazi, and art curator Beya Othmani.

Reflecting on the island of Jerba's complex history, and the popular myth that this Tunisian island hosts 365 mosques, one for every day of the year, Ziad Jamaledinne and partners in this project inaugurated this majestic installation within the framework of the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah.

Join us today at Raseef, to learn about Ziad Jamaledinne's work, as we convene to think of art, architecture and urbanism. Hosted generously this year at Buro Happold.
