I don't want to sound like a snob, but making my own clothes made me really appreciate how amazing natural fibers feel, especially in weather like this. I'll flirt with a little rayon from time to time, but pretty much everything I make is cotton, linen, or wool and especially in weather like this, I'm very grateful for 100% cotton and linen 😅.
.
Esther Drees from in orange broderie anglaise. I've always had a love hate relationship with button down dresses in that I love them on other people, but they never fit me right (have I mentioned that most ready to wear is fitted for a b cup??) but now that I can sew my own it's a love love relationship. I love this cut with the square neckline and it goes perfectly with this eyelet fabric. (You can't see it, but I sewed a slip hacked from the Ogden cami to wear underneath.)
.
Aurelia Dress from in floral cotton from. A moment for the twirl, please. I realized a little late that the fabric was directional so I didn't have quite enough, but I think it was a happy accident because I love how the white godets look here. Plus the lace up back is a romantic touch.
.
Henrietta Skirt from in bow broderie anglaise from with Honeygirl Cami from in pointelle cotton from. I fell in love with the little embroidered bows on this fabric and I'm so glad I managed to keep the original edge for the hem.
.
Shirley Dress from in cotton poplin from. I didn't know I needed a pasta printed sundress until I saw this fabric but I love it so much. Shirred dresses are my favorite and I love that this one has a little extra something with the basque waist. I played around a little here, lengthening it to a midi and adding scrunched elasticized straps.

Learning to make my own clothes has been a rewarding adventure in so many ways but one of my favorite things is the freedom of self-expression. I love color, and whimsy, and vintage vibes and the fact that I can fill my wardrobe with one-of-a-kind pieces that are unapologetically me is unmatched.
.
Celeste Dress from in cotton print from. This fabric felt very Bridgerton to me in the best way, and it lends itself well to the gathered yoke and puff sleeves here.
.
Vento Tank from in cotton from and Meadow Skirt from in cotton poplin from. A combination of one of my most recent makes (the top) and one of my first (the bottom) but they go well together.
.
Lilliana Dress from in cotton from with a Meet Cute cardigan from in Peer Gynt and Alva. Have I sung the praises of the Lilliana Dress enough at this point? I love the cut of it so much and this iteration, in this gorgeous map print, is my favorite yet. I also hacked my Meet Cute Henley knitting pattern into a cardigan.
.
Cloud Blouse from in Setasuri Big with Bracken Barrel Pants from in cotton twill from. I know it's not for everyone but I do love a barrel leg and with an elastic waistband, these not-quite-jeans are beyond comfy.
#memademay batch 2!

Something I really love about sewing is the thrill of learning a new skill, whether that's installing a zipper or figuring out the right tension to do a buttonhole. A lot of times, I struggle the first few times, but when I finally master it? I feel unstoppable. And with sewing, there are always new challenges to tackle.
.
Teddy Dress by in cotton poplin from. I don't normally sew fitted dresses, but this is an exception. I had to grade between sizes, but I love the fit and the print is 😍. This was also the first time I did a hidden zipper passably well!
.
Vento Tank by and La Ciotat Wrap Skirt by in gingham cotton sateen from. Love a mix and match set and the clever tie construction of the skirt is so easy to sew and wear.
.
Holland Park Dress by in viscose lawn from. I fell madly in love with this fabric (have I mentioned I love yellow?) and I practically lived in this dress last summer. I did end up changing out the elastic channels on the bodice for shirring, which worked out well!
.
Liliana Dress by in gingham cotton from. Another Liliana, long-sleeved this time! This was actually the dress I sewed up to wear for Christmas, but here we are in may and I'm still wearing it. I mentioned in my last post, but the Liliana dress is one of my favorites! Did I mention it has pockets?
One of my recent goals is to get better at showing off the things I make on here, and #memademay seemed like a good place to start posting the clothes I've made. I started sewing last year and knitting three years ago and the hobbies have been so creatively nourishing for me. Plus, as someone who has always loved clothes, it's been life-changing to be able to fit every garment to my body instead of the other way around. (Did you know that most store bought clothes are made for a b cup??)
.
I know myself well enough not to commit to posting a me-made outfit every day this May, but I thought I'd post in batches. So here is batch one of some of my favorite makes!
.
1. Liliana Dress by in a cotton print from. I've made three Liliana dresses so far (and more to come!). It's one of my favorites and I adore this bright stripy floral.

2. Fearne dress by in a blue cotton double gauze from. I jokingly call this my fancy dressing gown dress because it's comfy and flowy in the best way. The fabric is so light and airy (and the most beautiful shade of blue) and I know I'm going to be wearing this all summer long.

3. Josephina Dress by in a butter yellow cotton from. Sweet and simple. I love the ruffles on this dress and I loved the process of making them. Yellow is my favorite color, and this fabric is the perfect shade. I really want to sew up some more Josephina dresses and tops, maybe even as cute vintage-inspired nightgowns without the waist tie!

4. Taylor Crop (lengthened slightly) by Loveless Jaime in a cotton lawn remnant and Spring Trousers by in a light wash denim. Both fabrics are from. These trousers were a particular challenge because I've never done a zip fly before. It took lots of trial and error (and a second round of fabric) but I'm so proud of how they turned out! Honestly, I really enjoy a challenge 💅 The cardigan is my own knitting pattern, the Seaside Cardigan.
I see the "do romance novels require happily ever after?" discourse is rearing its head again and yes, they absolutely do, but if you don't want to take it from me, listen to Oriana.
.
Oriana might be a side character in Once Swindled, but I have a feeling she'll be a reader favorite. (And luckily, she won't have to wait too long for an HEA of her own. 😉)

How it (occasionally) feels trying to come up with new ideas ten books in. But don't worry—I've got something very fun up my sleeve for number 10 😌

I turned in a draft of the sequel/spinoff to Once Swindled last Thursday and decided to celebrate being fully off deadline for the first time in 6 months by running off to Belfast for the weekend (with a quick detour to the Giant's Causeway). I can't remember the last time I traveled without my laptop but it felt absolutely divine and I had the best time. The Giant's Causeway was just as stunning as the last time I visited back in 2019 and I fell a little in love with Belfast, especially the incredible street art all over the city.
Hello, 36.
.
I'm in the middle of a couple of deadlines at the moment, but I found a little time to have a little birthday celebration featuring queso, margs, tres leches, and my favorite person in the world. 🎉🥳💕
