I was out swimming with Mantas today when I spotted something I never, ever expected to see on the Ningaloo—a Paper Nautilus (Argonaut).
These are actually a type of octopus, and the “shell” is a delicate egg case the female creates. This one was hitching a ride on a red bell jellyfish, and it was so shy! Every time I moved, it would steer the jellyfish to stay hidden from me.
It’s easily one of the rarest and most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in the blue. The ocean really does have a way of surprising you when you least expect it 💙

I’ve been privileged to witness the intense bond between a Humpback Whale and her calf. These mothers migrate thousands of kilometres from Antarctica to warmer, protected waters specifically to give birth and nurse their young.
For months, the mother focuses entirely on her calf, nursing them with nutrient-rich milk while she herself often goes without food. She teaches them every vital skill needed for survival—from breaching to navigating the long journey back south. Once the calf has learned these lessons, they eventually find their own independence, carrying their mother’s guidance with them into the deep blue. 🌊🙌
It’s a powerful reminder of the strength and dedication of mothers everywhere.

Finding her again sent me straight back into the archives to relive that insane day. It was one of those rare moments where the ocean just explodes with life—a massive krill bloom that brought everyone to the party. We were surrounded by whale sharks, oceanic mantas, and mobulas all feeding together in a beautiful, chaotic dance 🌀🦐
