Today, we reflect on the life and spirit of a man who wasn’t just a musical genius, but family. Sly Stone wasn’t just a bandmate to my dad in Sly and The Family Stone—he was a brother, a trailblazer, a soul who changed the course of music forever.
The grooves, the funk, the freedom… none of it would’ve been what it was without Sly’s vision. He brought together voices of all shades and made the world listen. He believed in unity, in sound that spoke louder than the times, and in music that could move people to love, to think, and to change.
My father is deeply saddened, but also incredibly grateful—to have shared that journey, to have played beside such a revolutionary spirit, and to have called him a friend.
On behalf of Larry, and all of us, we send our love and heartfelt condolences to Sly’s family, friends, and all the fans around the world feeling this loss.
The funk will live forever because of Sly Stone.
