After long teaching days, client consultations, travel, caregiving, computer work, or mentally demanding schedules, I always create a brief pause between the activity of the day and the rhythm of the evening. ✨
Rather than carrying accumulated tension straight into dinner, screen time, or sleep, I return to a few simple grounding rituals that help support clarity, comfort, and presence within the body-mind. 🌿
*A warm salt-water gargle while the shower heats up. 🚿
*A quick rinse to symbolically and physically wash off the day.
*A small amount of herbal oil massaged into the skin. 💧
*Targeted support for areas that feel especially taxed or overworked.
*Short head and foot massages to soften mental tension and encourage relaxation.
*A few deep stretches and several rounds of alternate nostril breathing. 🧘🏼♀️
The entire practice takes me less than 10 minutes, yet it consistently shifts the tone of my evening. Perfect when I don’t have time for a long, traditional abhyanga and bath.
In Ayurveda, these rituals are considered sattva-enhancing — supportive of steadiness, contentment, balanced energy, and mental clarity. 🤍
I also notice that when I take even a few intentional minutes to care for myself in this way, healthier evening habits tend to follow more naturally: mindful nourishment, better hydration, reduced overstimulation, more meaningful connection, and earlier, deeper rest. The short self-care ritual sets me up for a more balanced and healthy evening. 🤍
Simple rituals practiced consistently can be remarkably powerful. ✨ Some days I have time for a long, leisurely wind down process, but on days when I don’t have time, a simple 10-minute “rough-and-ready” routine truly helps.
Featuring a few favorite evening companions from:
• Herbal Body Oil
• Mahanarayan Oil
• Hair Serum

No schedule to keep.
No urgency.
No performance.
No multitasking.
Just a spacious day devoted to replenishment.
A long solitary walk through the woods.
Quiet contemplation on a meditation bench.
Slow garshana and abhyanga.
A nourishing rose face mask.
Gentle yoga.
A crackling fire.
A Dharma talk playing softly in the background.
A jigsaw puzzle.
A nap on the couch beneath a warm blanket.
Mindful self-care practiced slowly enough to actually feel restorative.
In Ayurveda, these intentional rituals are not viewed as indulgent luxuries, but rather as meaningful practices that help support steadiness, vitality, resilience, and mental clarity.
Modern life often glorifies constant output and overstimulation, yet the nervous system deeply benefits from periods of quiet, warmth, softness, and spaciousness.
Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do for our well-being is to stop striving for a moment and simply allow ourselves to restore.
Wishing you moments of deep rest. 🤍
Happy unofficial start to summer!

One of my favorite ways to savor the season is the annual #Kripalu + #Tanglewood experience in the Berkshires — where mindfulness, yoga, nature, music, community, and summer beauty all come together in one extraordinary weekend.
August 7–9, I’ll be leading Yoga, Music & Mindfulness at Kripalu, directly across the street from Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Our days will include relaxing yoga, meditation, breathwork, meaningful conversation, nourishing organic meals, lakeside downtime, nature trails, and the deeply restorative rhythm that naturally emerges when we step away from constant busyness and into beauty, art, and nature.
And Saturday evening is especially magical this year:
we’ll walk across the street together for a Tanglewood concert featuring Yo-Yo Ma performing live under the summer sky. 🎻✨
There’s something incredibly special about spending a summer weekend immersed in both contemplative practice and world-class music — moving between Kripalu’s peaceful lakefront campus and the vibrant cultural energy of Tanglewood.
Come for the yoga and mindfulness.
Come for the music.
Come for the Berkshire summer experience itself.
Everyone is welcome. 💙

The environments we move through,
the views we absorb,
the conversations we engage in,
the pace at which we travel…
all leave an imprint on the nervous system.
One of the most restorative parts of my recent week in Northern California was not only the healthy movement (biking, hiking, yoga), ocean air, or time outdoors — though all of that mattered deeply.
It was the shift in perspective. 👓
Wide horizons.
Ocean breeze.
Rolling hills.
Architectural beauty.
Long walks without urgency.
Movement that felt pleasurable rather than performative.
There is something profoundly regulating about stepping outside familiar routines long enough to see differently again. 🔍
Ayurveda speaks often about balance through opposites. When life becomes overly structured, mentally dense, or inwardly contracted, it can be deeply beneficial to seek experiences that feel expansive, uplifting, beautiful, and enlivening. ⚖️
Not to escape life.
But to return to it with greater clarity.
A gentle reminder that restoration is not always found in doing less. Sometimes it is found in widening the lens. 🌊 🌴☀️

A return to simple yet deeply nourishing pleasures:
movement, nature, meaningful conversation, vibrant meals, and the quiet joy of spending time with someone who has known me for more than 35 years.
There is a particular grace in friendships that have matured alongside you. No need to perform. No need to explain your history. Only the rare comfort of being fully known — and warmly received through every chapter of life.
This visit unfolded gently:
biking across the Golden Gate Bridge, wandering through gardens and coastal paths, practicing yoga, savoring beautiful vegetarian meals, enjoying restorative spa time, and allowing spaciousness for long conversations, laughter, reflection, and rest. 🌿🚲🌊
In Ayurveda, balance is never rigid — it is responsive, intelligent, and alive. Periods of teaching, travel, responsibility, and deep focus are best sustained by equally intentional experiences of beauty, connection, creativity, and restoration.
And sometimes the most nourishing thing we can do is step away from productivity long enough to feel inspired again.
More fresh air.
More awe.
More movement.
More stillness.
More genuine connection. 🤍
I returned feeling grounded, replenished, and profoundly grateful for the people, practices, and rhythms that continue to shape a meaningful life.
A gentle reminder:
Wellness is not only something we cultivate through discipline — it is also something we experience through delight. 💙

That small act of wandering opened into an unexpectedly beautiful evening — a flower-covered church, gardens and greenhouses tucked beside a cultural center, hidden meditation benches, birdsong at dusk, and the expansive softness of a California sunset settling over everything. 🌼🪴
One of my favorite aspects of solo travel is allowing space for discovery without urgency. Ayurveda teaches that spring season can amplify Kapha dosha — the qualities of heaviness, sameness, attachment, and inertia. One of the most balancing antidotes is thoughtful novelty: new scenery, fresh sensory experiences, meaningful movement, creative exploration, and encounters with beauty that awaken the mind and spirit.
There is something profoundly regulating about stepping outside of routine long enough to become attentive again.
Sometimes nourishment arrives not through productivity or stimulation, but through unstructured wandering… through letting a place slowly reveal itself to you. 🌿
✏️ A reflection for the weekend:
What might shift if you allowed yourself to explore with no particular agenda?
What beauty, perspective, or inspiration might become visible when you loosen the grip of routine?
Where is life quietly inviting you toward freshness, curiosity, and expansion this season? 🌸
In this video, I’m at the summit of Stratton Mountain in Vermont. This yoga platform is a special treat—I regularly rest here, do yoga, meditate, and have a healthy snack before hiking back down. 🥾
Video is on 4x speed, so enjoy a much slower pace when practicing. 💙
Enjoy exploring!

One of the most effective techniques for soothing the nerves and settling the fluctuations of the mind, Nadi Shodhana is rhythmic, harmonizing, and grounding. This practice is excellent not only for releasing physical tension, but also for supporting clarity, tranquility, energy flow, and stress reduction. It can be practiced daily, and is perfect for chaotic times, or whenever you're feeling anxious, nervous, stressed, depleted, or exhausted. It’s great for weary travelers, too!
▫️Take a comfortable, steady seat. Make sure you feel cozy—consider using a meditation shawl or wrapping a blanket around your waist to enhance groundedness and stability. Sit up tall and close your eyes.
▫️Close the right nostril gently with the right thumb. Begin by inhaling slowly up the left nostril. Close the left nostril with the ring finger. Lift the thumb and exhale down the right nostril. Inhale back up the right nostril. Switch to exhale left. That’s one cycle.
▫️Continue at a comfortable rhythm. The breath should be smooth, soft, even, and comforting. Explore this practice for five to 10 minutes, or until you feel relaxed. Try it any time of day or night, whenever you need enhanced balance and ease.
▫️Pause and feel the effects of the practice.
▫️If one of your nostrils is congested or if you have a deviated septum, you can practice Nadi Shodhana hands-free (without blocking off the nostrils). Simply visualize the breath flowing gracefully from side to side as you follow the pattern above.
