🚠 How to get there:
Take the gondola from Kandersteg — CHF 40 per person (round trip). You can also hike one way or both ways if you’re up for it. The gondola runs from 8:30 AM to 6 PM — go early to beat the crowds!
🥾 Hike to Heuberg Viewpoint:
For the views in the video, follow the panoramic trail to Heuberg. It’s a scenic loop (round trip), and even with the gondola, you’ll still have a solid climb!
➤ Distance: 9 km
➤ Elevation gain: 500 m
➤ Duration: approx. 4–5 hours
⚠️ It’s an alpine trail — make sure you wear proper hiking boots. Check trail conditions and the weather forecast before heading out for your own safety.
🌞 Best time to visit: The lake is best between June and September. The trail to the Heuberg viewpoint usually opens by mid-June — keep that in mind when planning!

Stop 1: Appenzeller Alpen
This stunning region reminded me a bit of the Dolomites! I highly recommend the hike to Saxer Lücke and Fälensee — you can easily combine both if you take the cable car up to Staubern. Alternatively, the hike to Schäfler Ridge and Seealpsee is equally scenic and worth the effort.
Stop 2: Klöntalersee
This dreamy lake in the Klöntal valley is known for its turquoise waters and dramatic mountain backdrop. Just a heads-up: wild camping is prohibited here (and everywhere else in Switzerland!), but there are two beautiful campgrounds nearby.
Stop 3: Engelberg
One of my favorite hikes here is the Fürenalp round trip — take the cable car up and hike all the way back down. Along the way, you’ll pass green alpine meadows with cows, countless waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain views. Don’t miss the Stäuberfall.
Stop 4: Sustenpass
We drove several mountain passes in Switzerland, but this one was my favorite! Be sure to stop at Steingletscher — an absolutely stunning glacier!
Stop 5: Interlaken
Nestled between two lakes (hence the name!), Interlaken offers incredible hiking opportunities like the Augstmatthornhike. It’s also close to the famous Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald area — just keep in mind that it gets very crowded in peak season.
Stop 6: Oeschinensee
This lake is Instagram-famous — and for good reason! Start your day early to beat the crowds. Take the gondola up from Kandersteg and do the panoramic Heuberg hike for breathtaking views from above. It’s so worth it!
