When Jim Edmonds started his professional career, it had nothing to do with the outdoors.

Every day, he would take the long commute from Burlington to his office job in downtown Toronto.

But he quickly realized that working as a sales manager was not fulfilling him in the way he had hoped. Looking for a career change, an opportunity came knocking at just the right time.

One evening, Edmonds was chatting with a neighbour and close friend who happened to own a landscaping company. That same neighbour knocked on his door a few weeks later, asking if he would like to buy the business.

With his wife Fiona, they became the owners of in 2004. He understood he would need proper education to become the best in the business, and attended many courses and seminars at Landscape Ontario.

The seminars also introduced him to other members of the LO community, leading him to his current role as Chapter President, where he oversees and helps plan events for over 1,500 members.

This passion for making a difference and giving back to the industry continues to motivate Edmonds in his daily work. Now in the later years of owning his business, his passion lies in teaching and training the next generation of landscapers.

This dedication has earned the company multiple awards, including Landscape Ontario Awards of Excellence in two residential landscape categories in 2021.

Thank you, Jim Edmonds, for your dedication to Landscape Ontario and the landscape & horticulture industry!
Congratulations on this impressive project 👏👏
Volunteers from the Toronto Chapter, with funding from through the Landscape Ontario Chapter Challenge, restored the garden at in south Etobicoke to make it a place that honours memory, supports healing and carries a deep respect for nature.

They designed an ecologically grounded plan that prioritizes native plants and water-wise choices, along with a palette to provide interest and nourishment for pollinators across all four seasons.

They also matched the grant with in-kind contributions that included coordinated plant ordering, logistics and on-site labour. Volunteers worked tirelessly clearing out overgrowth, amending soil, shaping new beds and planting hundreds of perennials, shrubs and trees.

This project is a powerful reminder of the role horticulture plays in wellbeing. Thoughtfully designed green spaces have the ability to comfort, restore and support emotional healing.

It also reflects the generosity of the wider community. Landscape Ontario members helped the hospice honour the families who come through its doors each year. Their leadership strengthened ties across the horticultural community, enabling donations and support that the hospice could not have secured alone.
Congratulations to the Toronto Chapter for their leadership, collaboration and dedication to their community, and thanks to Trees for Life for their funding and support!
