Behind the scenes — in Barcelona before Milan to visit LAMÁQUINA large-scale robotic 3D printing and advanced manufacturing centre

After working closely with craft-based processes over the past few projects, it felt refreshing to take a more technology-focused approach. For Edible Reveries with, we were able to create conceptual large-scale pasta-inspired furniture without the need for moulds or conventional fabrication methods.

The daybed, rocker, lounge chair, and ottoman had only previously existed as sketches, mock-ups, and scaled models — so seeing them emerge at full scale for the first time felt especially surreal. Even more impressive was witnessing each piece being printed as a single continuous form through the carefully choreographed movements of a six-axis robotic arm.

The furniture was conceived as a continuous gesture — drawn as though a single strand of spaghetti had begun sketching itself endlessly through space. This idea extends directly into the fabrication process itself through robotic 3D-printing using a pasta-coloured composite wood-filled PLA.

During production, the robotic arm slowly rotates around the object, allowing the nozzle to maintain an almost right angle throughout the print. The result is a seamless one-piece structure: continuous, uninterrupted, almost like extruded pasta suspended in space.

After a full day surrounded by towering robotic arms, layers of printed material, and experimental forms, we managed to capture some epic photographs within the factory itself which ended up published on the New York Times.

A huge thank you the LAMÁQUINA team for their expertise, generosity, and collaboration in helping bring these pieces to life — and ultimately into the moments shared by visitors throughout Milan Design Week.

produced 38 large-scale panels, the tallest exceeding two meters, in a polymer reinforced with fibreglass, wrapping walls and ceiling into a single continuous surface.

The design, conceived by to echo Hokusai’s Great Wave, was generated through reaction-diffusion logic. Our job was to print it without losing that fluidity.

The ceiling panels overlap in successive layers, building the wave form from below. The deeper challenge was elsewhere: combining the organic pattern with non-planar printing pushed inclination angles beyond 45° in critical zones. Each required individual toolpath development.

Inspired by Edo-era art, the space softens the strength of the Samurai into fluid, continuous lines echoing the motion of the Odachi sword and the energy of Hokusai’s Great Wave. The 3D-printed installation wraps walls and ceiling into one flowing gesture, creating an immersive, ever-moving interior.

Developed with the panels are printed using a recycled PETG composite reinforced with 30% glass fibre. A high-performance, fire-rated material that transforms industrial waste into durable architectural elements, designed for full circularity and re-use.

The surface is computationally generated through reaction-diffusion logic, forming an organic pattern that feels grown rather than designed, bringing depth, rhythm, and movement into the space.

For the Radisson Blu Cluj Skybar, BIOMORPH Design conceived the space as a Frozen Action, a sculptural drape held in a single moment, realised through 3D printed panels mounted onto the concrete walls.

Within that logic, LAMÁQUINA produced the sofa in glass fibre–reinforced polymer, tuning printing parameters to control flow, layer adhesion, structural behaviour, and colour finish.

Printed laterally, the sofa builds its structure through bead orientation — the internal folds and continuous lines working at once as structure and visual language. Bold curves that carry the identity of the space.

presents three ceramic facades developed through computational design and produced at full scale through 3D-printed clay.

Each facade is composed of nine bricks whose geometries are directly driven by the digital model, merging design and fabrication into a single continuous process. The project explores how parametric control and material behaviour can define architectural surfaces with precision and variation.

Developed with LAMÁQUINA and fired at, the pieces are printed and calibrated under the direction of Juliana, who adjusts each element to anticipate its transformation through firing, where shrinkage, deformation, and color evolution become part of the design.

What emerges is a system where each component is produced with its final performance in mind, resulting in facades that assemble with accuracy, without post-adjustment.
