It’s day 2 of my takeover!!
Starting the day at, my go-to spot for morning admin work. Great coffee, cozy energy, and proof that Calgary’s café scene is perfect for remote work days when you want to get out of the house but still feel productive.
From there, a long walk through Prince’s Island Park - taking in the winter views, watching the skaters, and reminding myself how lucky we are to have parks like this right in the middle of the city.
Walking across the Peace Bridge and into Kensington - one of my favourite neighbourhoods to wander through without a plan, because you always end up stumbling into hidden gems.
We spent time browsing ’s beautiful Japanese goods that instantly brought back memories from our last trip to Japan, then popped into because a visit to Kensington isn’t complete without flipping through old records!
We finished the morning walking the streets, enjoying the murals and local art - one of my favourite parts of exploring the city.
Coffee, fresh air, walkable neighbourhoods, and little moments that make everyday life feel special - this is what the Blue Sky City looks like to me.

I’m Lauren - a born and raised Blue Sky City girl - and I’m taking over the page for the next two days to share why I fell back in love with my hometown!
Growing up, I was convinced I wanted to leave. I couldn’t wait to see what else was out there. But after traveling, living life, and experiencing other places, I realized just how special this city really is.
Calgary didn’t just shape my lifestyle - it shaped my career, too. I’ve worked with my company for 10 years and now work remotely as a full-time corporate operations manager. This city gave me the space, opportunity, and support to grow into my role - and it’s shown me just how many professional growth opportunities exist here. Pair that with one of the best café scenes for a flexible, remote work lifestyle, and it’s hard not to love building a career in Calgary.
The when you add in the mountains at our doorstep, endless access to nature, and neighbourhoods that actually feel lived in - you start to see why this place is so special.
But at the heart of it all, it’s the people that make this city what it is. Watching Calgary grow and evolve over my 26 years here has been incredible. It’s a community that truly shows up for each other, and that’s something you don’t find everywhere.
This city raised me, supported my growth both professionally and personally, and continues to surprise me in the best ways - and getting to call it home is something I’m genuinely so proud of. 🤎
