A few days ago, I went to Takaragaike Park to practice taking photos on a sunny afternoon (I'm not very good at taking photos on sunny days...).
It’s such a fun place to walk around and take pictures that I think it might just be the most beautiful park in Kyoto.
Since there are hardly any tourists or photographers there, I go there occasionally to take pictures, and whether I visit in spring, summer, fall, or winter... I love the peace and tranquility no matter what season it is...
I rarely put together a whole post using only photos taken on sunny days, so please consider today’s post a special edition. (Even if it’s sunny on the day of the event, I have no choice but to take photos, so there are quite a few sunny ones…)
休日の宝ヶ池公園は、平和で静か…とってもいい空気感。
以前休日の晴れた日に日中の写真（めっちゃ苦手…）を撮る練習をしに宝ヶ池公園へ。
京都で一番整っている公園なのではと思うくらい、歩きまわりながら写真を撮るのが楽しい場所です。
観光客もカメラマンも全然いないのでちょくちょく癒されに来るのですが、春夏秋冬いつ来ても静かで落ち着けて大好きです…。
普段は晴れた日中の写真で全編を編集することは滅多にないので、今日のポストは番外編とでも思ってください。（行事の写真は晴れの写真も多いですが…。）
音楽はゼルダの伝説時のオカリナのリメイクが発売するとの事で懐かしすぎて幼少時代を思い出して悶える日々なので曲を使いたすぎて、テーマ曲を選んでみました。
もう本当に…Switch2持ってないのが辛い…(´；ω；｀)

I decided to skip the snow and autumn foliage photos and post something simple instead.
With that in mind, I searched through my photos, but I realized I don’t have many of those simple, classic shots I had in mind…
I edited this post as a gentle reminder to myself that I need to take more photos like that.
I wonder if anyone who loves Kyoto would recognize all these places (´-`).｡oO

Unlike during the day, the city falls silent after dark, except for the areas hosting events or in the bustling downtown districts.
Whenever I see these deserted scenes late at night, it feels strange—as if the city, which was teeming with people just a short while ago, has fallen asleep…
Personally, while I do enjoy nighttime events and the downtown areas, I’ve lost that sense of fear when visiting places where not a soul is around, and I’ve come to fully appreciate the atmosphere of the moment.
夜の京都から。
昼間とは打って変わって、行事や繁華街を除いては静かな夜が訪れます。
いつも夜遅くで人のいない風景を目の当たりにすると、あんなに大勢活動していた町が眠るかのように静かで不思議な感覚に…。
個人的には夜の行事や繁華街も好きですが、誰一人いない場所へいくのももはや怖いという感覚は消えてその場の空気感を存分に味わえるようになりました…。

I hear that some hydrangeas are now at their peak at places like Sasutena Kyoto and Rokusonno Shrine. (No photos, though...)
Whenever hydrangea season rolls around, I’m reminded that hydrangea leaves are poisonous and shouldn’t be eaten.
I’ve heard a few stories about people mistaking them for shiso leaves and eating them with sashimi, but in every case, it led to food poisoning—so I haven’t heard any good stories about it.
While the blooms create a beautiful scene, they also give me a slightly eerie feeling...
今年もぼちぼち京都の紫陽花が咲きだしているようで、1年の折り返しを感じています…。
さすてな京都や六尊王神社など、一部紫陽花が見ごろを迎えているそうな。（写真はありません…。）
いつもふと頭の中に浮かぶのが、紫陽花の葉っぱは毒性があって食べられないということ。
大葉に見た目が似ていてお刺身と一緒に食べるエピソードをいくつか聞いたことがありますが、いずれも食中毒を引き起こしていていい話は聞きません。
花が咲くと綺麗な風景となりますが、それとは裏腹にちょっと怖い印象も…。

The other day, I went to the Uesaku Festival at Kurama Temple, which has become an annual tradition for me.
That said, I actually joined partway through after having completely botched a photo shoot of the full moon at a different location… (It was such a shame… 😭)
It’s a night when we receive powerful energy from the heavens on the night of the May full moon and pray for peace together. (During the ceremony, photography and video recording are prohibited so that we can focus on the ritual with one heart, seeing the scenery spread out before us with our own eyes rather than through a camera lens.)
After the ceremony ends, around 11 p.m., only a handful of people remain. We sit in silence, gazing at the fire or listening to the birdsong echoing through the stillness.
I usually head down the mountain after 11 p.m., but every time I walk alone down the steps lit by lanterns under the full moon, I find myself stopping in my tracks.
It is so incredibly beautiful, and the thought that I am the only person in the world experiencing this view fills me with a truly surreal feeling.
I am deeply moved to have spent such a wonderful time from the bottom of my heart again this year. Thank you very much.

先日は毎年の恒例行事となってきた、鞍馬寺の五月満月祭（ウエサク祭）に行ってまいりました。
といっても別の場所で満月を撮って大失敗した後での途中からの参加でしたが…。（本当にショックだった…😭）
5月の満月の夜に天からの強い力を受け取り、みんなで平和を祈る夜です。（祭典中は機器越しではなく、目の前に広がる風景を自分の目に焼き付け、皆で心を一つにして儀式に専念するため写真や動画の撮影は禁止となっています。）
行事終了後、夜11時ごろになると数えられる人達しか残っておらず、誰も言葉を発さずにただ座って火を眺めたり、静寂のなかに響き渡る鳥の鳴き声を聞いて時間を過ごします。
大体いつも11時を過ぎてから下山するのですが、たった一人で満月に照らされた灯籠の灯る階段を歩くと思わず立ち止まってしまいます。
あんまりにも美しく、世界で私だけがこの景色を独占しているのだと思うと本当に不思議な気持ちになるのです。
この感動ばっかりは正直写真では完全に写しきれないなと、実際に夜中にたった一人でこの場所を歩くことでしか分からないと思いました。
今年も心からのいい時間を過ごせて感無量。ありがとうございました。

This is Ikkyu-ji Temple, located in Kyotanabe, a town in southern Kyoto.
Today’s post features photos taken during the “World of Shadows and Meditation: Green Illumination” event held last May.
Although it’s a bit outside the city center, it’s a lovely spot where you can enjoy the beautiful greenery and spend a peaceful day.

こちらは京都の南部、京田辺という町の一休寺というお寺。

If things continue on this path without change, I fear Japan will lose its unique identity and become a desolate country—or perhaps a completely different nation altogether.
When I think of my children’s generation, and the grandchildren who will be born in the future, I am filled with worry.
I believe that the landscapes and traditions that the people of this island nation have built and preserved are being systematically destroyed, one by one.
What matters is protecting this nation; it is not about simply filling the numbers with people from outside.
ここ数年の日本の状況を見ていると、悲しい気持ちになるばかり。
このまま物事が変わらず進めば日本は持っていた独自性を失って荒廃した国、もしくは違う国になるんじゃないだろうか。
子供の世代、それからいずれ産まれてくるかもしれない孫の世代を思うと心配が尽きない。
この島国の民族が作り上げて守ってきた風景も伝統も、一つ一つ確実に壊れていくと思う。
大事なのはこの民族を守ることであって、外からの数合わせだけの人間で間に合わせることじゃない。

It seems the early-blooming cherry blossoms in Kyoto City are already at their peak...

I've gathered some misty scenes I captured in Kyoto.
Especially in the city center, it's a rare sight, happening maybe once a year if that.
I'd love to photograph it again, but misty scenes around the Yasaka Tower or Higashi Honganji Temple are impossible to capture, no matter how much I wish for it.
あまり目の当たりにする機会はありませんが…。

特に京都市内の中心地では年に一度あるかないかというくらいに、貴重な光景です。
狙って撮ったものもありますが、八坂の塔や東本願寺の霧の風景は運試しのようなものです…（笑）
