šŸ”„ Skimo is coming to the Olympics at Milano Cortina 2026, and it is not your typical ski race.

Think steep uphill sprints, rapid transitions, and a full-speed descent. It is fast, technical, and absolutely relentless.

All the things 😊
Work work work work work šŸŽ¶ as this song says. It plays on repeat in my head every time I’m grinding up a boot pack šŸ˜‰

A friend texted me the other day asking how I’m doing with ā€œretirement,ā€ and I kind of chuckled. After years of being a competitive athlete while having two kids, working full-time, and now heading back to school for my master’s, I’ve become very skilled at what I’d call compartmentalization.

I honestly think balance is a myth. For me, a perfectly ā€œbalancedā€ life usually means mediocrity everywhere. Instead, I move between periods of deep focus on both a macro and micro scale.

On the macro side: for the past year I was all-in on the final World Cup season, wearing both the athlete and high-performance director hats. Since that chapter wrapped up, I’ve shifted gears and gone head-down into a master’s project.

On the micro side: I block-schedule my days so I can focus fully on one thing at a time. It’s the only way I can truly be present especially with my kids. Sometimes I crush it, sometimes I don’t, but when I compartmentalize well, I’m at my most productive.

Through all of it training, school, work, life my top priority is always my kids and family because I believe they are my most valuable relationship in this life. This is likely shaped by the Christian world view I was raised with. Then my next static priority is always work, because we all have bills.

Maybe I overthink things. But intentional living and goal setting have been part of my life since I was five when I started sport, it’s wired into who I am.

Maybe this way of thinking helps you feel more productive, present, or successful too. Or maybe not. We’re all complex humans trying to find our own rhythm.

Alright… time to work work work work work again šŸ˜‰
New Year’s resolutions sound motivating… until they collide with real life.

Big jumps, vague goals, trendy shortcuts, and ā€œno pain no gainā€ thinking usually don’t fail because you lack discipline they fail because they ignore basic physiology and human reality.

Fitness that lasts isn’t built on motivation spikes.
It’s built on systems, habits, and consistency you can actually sustain.

Skip the resolution.
Build a system you can live with.
It’s not always about the big moments.

On every hut trip, there are slow, quiet moments that stay with me. Looking back on 2025 an incredible year with travel all over the world, from Azerbaijan to TromsĆø. I was reminded that the memories I carry most aren’t the best or worst races, or the biggest events.

They’re the in-between moments.

A conversation with a teammate.
A sunset.
A quiet coffee.
A unique place to stay.
An unexpected piece of art.
A view that makes you pause a little longer than planned.

It’s important that we don’t get so caught up in the big picture that we miss the small, precious moments unfolding around us.

Here’s to 2026 and fully appreciating all of it. ✨
Mentally still here… 2026 and skimo racing retirement officially off on the right foot.
I’ve always loved rustic, wild trips exploring quiet places with good people.
Thanks for being game, crew. An honour ringing in the New Year with you😊 🫶

Cold, short days. I certainly welcome the winter sun.
The hard work to reach the tops is quickly forgotten in steep, deep powder on the way down.
Black, burned trees etched against smooth white lines.
Contrast everywhere, what a dramatic zone.
Love a little light in the cold. šŸ’«
Boxing Day spent shopping for powder with friends, my kind of mall. This December snow in the Rockies is unreal feels like an all-time season in the making ā„ļøšŸ’™
Lots of people and clients I know are sick right now. I just got sick after a big World Cup.

Ever notice how people often get sick after a big race…
or the start of holidays, wedding, exam, deadline, breakup, or major life event?

That timing isn’t random.

During high stress physical or emotional your body leans on adrenaline and cortisol to get you through. They’re helpful short-term, but prolonged exposure temporarily suppresses immune function.

When the event ends and your system finally downshifts, there’s a brief ā€œopen windowā€ where immune protection is reduced. Add poor sleep, under-fueling, travel, crowds, inflammation, and emotional load and getting sick suddenly makes sense.

This isn’t weakness.
It’s neuroendocrine physiology.

The lesson:
Recovery doesn’t start when you feel broken.
It starts when the stress ends.

If you plan recovery after big efforts in sport and in life you reduce the crash that follows.

Performance isn’t just about pushing hard.
It’s about protecting the system that lets you do it again.

So if you crammed for the holidays and now they are here try to build in some time and practices that help your body calm down, distress and relax to avoid getting sick and having a big crash. If this happens, like it did to me. Rest, listen to your body and lean into some RnR. šŸŽ„ ā¤ļø
Hey there! If you’re new around here, here’s a little about me šŸ‘‹

I live in the stunning Canadian Rockies near Calgary, Alberta, and I’m a proud mom to two almost-teen boys (how did that happen so fast?!).

I’ve been on Canada’s Ski Mountaineering National Team for the past 15 years, racing World Cups and World Championships. Before that, I spent two decades flying around the ice as a high performance short and long track speed skater.

I have two degrees, political science and economics and I once thought I’d be an accountant… wow, was I wrong! šŸ˜…

After three decades in sport and a whole lot of training, racing, mentorship, and lessons learned I found my true calling: coaching.

Now I’m a coach with —a leader in mountain sport coaching and studying for my MSc masters in strength, conditioning and coaching. I absolutely love helping people chase big goals in wild places. If you have a mountain sport goal or just want to get stronger, faster, and fitter? Send me a DM:)

When I’m not coaching, you’ll find me mountain biking, rock climbing, ski mountaineering, or trail running. Moving quickly in the mountains is my greatest passion any season, any terrain.

Random facts? I love carbs šŸŖ, hate lentils, drink coffee like it’s a food group, and will jump into any alpine lake I find in summer šŸ’¦

Thanks for being here. I try to keep this space positive and real but remember, it’s always just a glimpse into someone’s life. I hope it inspires you, the way so many of you inspire me āœŒļøšŸ’•
