A foxes open mouth gape, is generally less wide than the average domestic dog. Because of their long pointed noses and very pointy teeth, the opposite could be easily mistaken.
-
Because foxes are built for catching small rodents and insects, their jaws are optimized for speed and needle-sharp precision rather than crushing power.
A domestic dog of a similar size, about the same as a miniature schnauzer, will typically possess a significantly stronger bite force than a fox.
While domestic dogs typically bite to grip, hold, or shake their prey, a fox’s jaw mechanics are specifically evolved for lightning-fast, defensive snapping.
-
How about that Tongue though?
An average adult red fox tongue measures roughly 5 inches (12 cm) long. Because a fox’s head is quite small and narrow, a tongue of this length is highly proportional and can look shockingly long when extended.
Unlike domestic dogs, foxes are the only canids with tongues covered in tiny, rough papillae (spines), similar to a cat’s tongue.
-
Incredibly, foxes frequently steal bird eggs. Their long, dexterous tongues allow them to pierce a small hole in an eggshell and neatly lap up the entire contents within seconds without spilling it.

These Pelagic seabirds breed on the cliffs of Teuri Island, situated a few kilometers off the midcoast of western Hokkaido in Japan.
I’ve spent the past three days here being mesmerized by them & their love stories as they tenderly care for each other and their young.
I honestly couldn’t get enough of them.

the dappled sunlight steals this moments glance,
I see a lonely bee glide in a drunken dreamy trance,
Swept away by this yellow flower sun dance.
-
Quiet clear wings begin to soar,
past the old torii gate
up to sacred doors,
past ancient wood and mossy stone,
Peace is now found
natures beauty becomes known.

This massive bird, is a Mumma!
After consuming 3 fish for herself, she eventually flew back to her tree cavity with a fish in her beak for her owlet.
Wonderful to see this beautiful endangered owl species procreating successfully here in Hokkaido Japan.

Hokkaido only has brown bears, which I believe, has been genetically proven through DNA testing.
Their are asiatic black bears in the lower Islands but the two breeds have never ever mixed, nor do they exist on each others separated islands.
-
since Hokkaido’s detachment from Siberia,
and with tens or possibly 100’s of thousands of years of island isolation,
many of the bears have transformed into these outstanding looking individuals.
one would have to guess natural selective breeding has played some kind role in this unique look.
It’s likely there is a localized environmental advantage to the bears looking like this here, but I doubt it has ever been studied.
But you can be pretty sure that when this beautiful young mature bear breeds, his youngsters will have a very high probability of inheriting his miraculous technicolor dream coat!

“My spirit animal”
A poem for nature
Guardians of the mountains,
bastions of the land,
Preservers of the rivers,
they’re natures helping hands.
Gentle yet gigantic,
powerful yet shy,
imposing yet they’re peaceful,
keepers of the lands.
While they’re goin’ bout their business,
we need to treat ‘em fair,
not consider them as enemies,
just for being bears.

“A bear cubs point of view”
Bravely navigating the swirls and waves of the waters in the wild,
these salmon try hard, darting and dashing but in the end have no place to hide.
I’m a big boy now!
And I’m on the prowl!
on a mission to get us both feed!
With Mother Earth gripped firmly beneath my toes, I will follow my mum wherever she goes!
Clambering, climbing, jumping and diving even swimming if I have to Surmise,
Because in the end I’ll do what I can, nothing will stop me from catching my prize.
Fish you see are a priority,
high on the list to survive.
Hey! there’s one now! Look there it goes, jumping high over those fast flowing falls!
If I hurry enough, if I run if I jump, bet I can catch it with my razor sharp claws!
And if I can,
it’s not just for fun,
As I’ll proudly give it
to my hard working Mum!
She deserves it after all!
