Our Kerala trip started with Alleppey and honestly, it was the perfect way to slow down and settle into vacation mode. 🤍
✈️ Landed at Kochi Airport at 5 AM
🚗 Kochi Airport → Alleppey: Approx. 2-2.5 hours drive
Since our hotel check-in was only at 1 PM, we decided to make the most of our morning and booked the famous Shikara Boat Ride.
🚤 Shikara Ride Details:
• Duration: Around 3 hours
• Cost: ₹1,500–₹2,000 per boat (depends on season & negotiation)
• Best for: Backwaters, village life, coconut groves & a peaceful experience without staying on a houseboat
It was raining when we started, but the weather cleared up beautifully and the views were absolutely stunning.
🥗 Jain/Veg Travellers:
Finding Jain food in Kerala can be a little challenging, so I highly recommend researching restaurants in advance.
🌅 Evening:
• Beach sunset
• Local street walks
• Banana chips
• Fresh coconut water
• Ice cream
If you’re planning a Kerala trip and don’t want to stay overnight on a houseboat, I would definitely recommend doing the Shikara ride instead. It gives you a very similar backwater experience at a much lower cost.
