Dirk Zoete (b. 1969) is a Belgian artist whose work grows from drawing — the foundation of a universe filled with invented characters, architectural forms and staged scenarios. His practice embraces playful experimentation and continual reworking: sketches become models, models return to drawings, and images evolve through repetition and variation.

Vivid, charged fields of red and green draw the eye into a quiet struggle for attention.
In this work Katrin Bremermann continues her exploration of tension between colour, material, and form, using enamel on waxed paper to create a luminous surface where colour hovers between control and release.

For German artist Thomas Müller (b. 1959, Frankfurt) drawing is an endless field of experimentation. Müller works exclusively on paper — combining pencil, ink, crayon, oil, and marker to create delicate, abstract structures that are at once autonomous compositions and fragments of a larger whole. His works often transcend the frame of the paper, reaching toward neighboring formations in an open, grid-like dialogue.

Nothing is predetermined. The drawings emerge from the void — without preconceived components, without a fixed destination. Whether through dynamic lines evoking the macroscopic details of a wave, or in extremely reduced compositions with just a few markings: each work expresses a yearning for complementary structures.

On view in Venice — and very much worth the visit!

Alberto Scodro (b. 1984, Marostica, Italy) presents his installation 'EMERSA SOMMERSA' at the Venice Pavilion for the '61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia', as part of 'Persistent Notes' — on view until 22 November 2026.

Twelve sculptures from his 'UG (Untitled Glass-Sand)' series rise from the pool in front of the Padiglione Venezia at Giardini — fused from glass, sand, industrial scraps and found objects at 1000°C in his kilns in Nove. They look like coral formations dredged up from the seabed. They feel like compressed geological time.

Alongside the sculptures, a forest of elongated door handles — selected from Olivari's historic collections by Gardella, Gio Ponti, Van Duysen, Barber & Osgerby and Citterio — rises from the water on extensions of varying height, offering access to imaginary underwater doors traced in bubbles.

'Persistent Notes', curated by Giovanna Zabotti with Denis Isaia and Cesare Biasini Selvaggi, takes its title from the persistent notes of Venice itself — what sustains the city but remains invisible, surfacing only under special conditions.

“No protected world…Just behind the wall the noise begins,”— Tomas Tranströmer

Between laughter and grinding, fear of war and blooms, between the filth of mouth and arse and the breath of the zeitgeist, 'TESTTEST' tries to order the world by keeping it in motion. The exhibition unfolds as a sequence of ruptures and transitions: four rooms, four rhythms, many ways of looking. A route with no clear direction, in which images, words, materials, and thoughts keep interrupting one another. In flashes, the present.

Tuukka Tammisaari (b. 1984) is a Finnish painter whose practice privileges rhythm, repetition and improvisation. His compositions emerge through direct engagement with the canvas: bold gestures, compressed marks and saturated blocks of color accumulate into visual structures that feel both playful and architectural. Motifs are revisited, reworked and layered, producing paintings that seem to vibrate between spontaneity and order.

Klaas Kloosterboer (b. 1959, the Netherlands) is a Dutch artist celebrated for his bold, physical, and experimental approach to painting. His work navigates a continual cycle of construction, destruction and reconstruction, constantly shifting between two dimensional and three dimensional expressions and challenging traditional boundaries of the medium. With an unmistakable honesty and intensity, Kloosterboer pushes paint and form to their limits, reinventing his practice with each work while testing the very act of painting as an expressive and conceptual gesture. His work has been exhibited widely and is held in major institutional collections and distinguished private collections.
