Took this photo on North Stradbroke Island, I had the pleasure of experiencing these birds 10 feet away from myself. I don't usually stop taking photos but I just had to be in that moment. Here's a fact!! 😁
Ospreys hunt by diving to the water's surface from some 30 to 100 feet up. They have gripping pads on their feet to help them pluck fish from the water with their curved claws and carry them for great distances. In flight, ospreys will orient the fish headfirst to ease wind resistance.
The Osprey has since come back from the brink of extinction and is classified as "least concern" LC in the conservation status index. Non the less these are amazing birds of prey and have a unique way to adapting to the virus that is the human race.

Bush stone curlew
I took this lovely photo of a Bush-Stone curlew on North Stradbroke Island here in Australia. I love how he looks like he gives zero fucks.
Something interesting about this bird, Bush Stone-curlews have a remarkable courtship dance. Individuals stand with their wings outstretched, their tail upright and their neck stretched slightly forward. The birds will stamp their feet up and down, like a soldier marking time. This courtship ritual is repeated for an hour or more at a time and is accompanied by loud and constant calling. Eggs are laid in a shallow scrape in the ground and both adults share the incubation and care for the young.

Brahminy Kite

It has keen view and can see its prey from a distance. It is able to lift live fish from the water, but most of time, it scavenges on beaches or takes debris from the water surface seizing them with its talons.
Brahminy Kite frequents the harbours and fish-farms where it feeds close to humans. Outside the feeding periods, it rests on branches often near water. It forages as over water or over land, and soars at about 20 to 50 metres above the surface or the ground.
It flushes shorebirds on mudflats into flight and pursues the weakest. It is attracted by fires in order to catch the escaped animals.
Brahminy Kite is mostly resident in Asia and Australia, and performs only local movements for food.

Food for thought:
A cheetah runs around 60mph and only manages to do 10 body lengths a second. While the horn eyed ghost crab does 100 body lengths per second. If this crab was the size of a cheetah it would potentially be able to run at 600mph. Now that's crazy potential! 😂

Speedy Ghosts: fun fact! Ghost crabs can really run fast! As suggested by their scientific name ("Ocy" means swift and "podi" foot in Greek). They literally fly over the sand and their movement has been described as a small leaf blowing over the sand surface. In fact, they may be among the fastest land creatures, moving at 100 bodylengths per second.
Status and threats: Our Horn-eyed ghost crabs are not listed as a threatened species. However, like other creatures of the intertidal zone, they are affected by human activities such as reclamation and pollution. As they settle near the high water mark, they are also impacted by floating litter that accumulates at this level.

Thank you all, I've reached 6,000 followers! So here's a beautifully up close photo of a Sumatran Tiger. This one was taken through glass as they're Endangered. Breeding programs are a life saver in the realm of these tigers. The Sumatran tiger is natively found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra where the Sumatran tiger can be found inhabiting a variety of habitats from low and highland areas, to mountainous jungle and peat swamp forests.
Conservation:
The Sumatran tiger has one of the most severe conditions for survival. It is classified as Critically Endangered in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its population is decreasing at an alarming rate, due to the loss and fragmentation of its habitat, the conflict between tigers and humans, poaching to trade parts of their body illegally or even to catch live specimens.

What threats they face
Some people keep ring-tailed lemurs as pets. Farmers destroy habitat by allowing livestock to overgraze and cutting down gallery forests to expand cropland or to make charcoal by burning wood. This species is also hunted by humans for food. Additionally, climate change resulting in more frequent droughts may have significant negative consequences for lemurs and the plants they rely on in southern Madagascar. Natural predators include hawks, boa constrictors, fossas (carnivorous mammal, related to the mongoose with qualities of a cat), domestic cats and dogs. Human activity is causing the greatest harm to the species.

Swift-footed Shore Crab
Leptograpsus Variegatus
I ran into this cute little guy when I was exploring the Northern Stradbroke island, near the gorge. I was in search for a green sea turtle, I spotted it and climbed down the gorge in flip flop sandles. I don't reccomend it, just to get a closer look. Unfortunately the turtle was no where to be seen, but to my surprise these guys appeared.

The key was, I had a shot in mind I wanted it to look at me, or look like it was looking at me. A portrait breaking the forth wall. A blurred background, with a foreground and background light and shadow dynamic. I waited and waited and waited, patience is a wildlife photographers greatest asset.
A little about this cool looking crab!
The purple rock crab is a large (c. 80 mm shell width), alert and aggressive nocturnal crab that is highly mobile. It is a scavenger and predator that inhabits crevices and large boulders in rocky intertidal zones (from high tide to +2 m). It can remain out of water for days but can also remain submerged. In New Zealand, it is known from the Kermadecs, North Island and northern parts of the South Island. It has also been recorded across the southern subtropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in Australia, islands of the South Pacific and western South America.

As much as I don't like to see them in zoos, it allows you to study them. See their movements and habits. And Australia zoo is beyond any other zoo I've witnessed. Conservation status: The southern cassowary is listed as Endangered nationally ( Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC) Act 1999). At the time of European settlement of Australia, the southern cassowary lived in tropical rainforests of north-east Queensland
Cassowaries prefer fallen fruit, but will eat small vertebrates, invertebrates, fungi, carrion and plants. Cassowaries play an important role in maintaining the diversity of rainforest trees. Cassowaries are one of only a few frugivores (fruit eaters) that can disperse large rainforest fruits, and the only species that can carry large seeded fruits over long distances.
What threatens them:
A number of factors affect southern cassowary survival. The major threats include the loss, fragmentation and modification of habitat, vehicle strikes, dog attacks, human interactions, pigs, disease and natural catastrophic events.

Wedge-tailed Eagle
Scientific name: Aquila audax
This is a portrait of Australia's largest bird of prey, and one of the world's largest Eagle 🦅 with the Bush fires happening I think its really important to think about the adverse effects it'll have and is having on our wildlife and ecosystems. Being informed about what's happening and who's it effecting is the most effective thing we can do. For instance below is a few ways that this beautiful creature is being affected.
In the early to mid 1900s, farmers believed that Wedge-tailed Eagles killed sheep and lambs. A bounty was paid for their destruction, leading to the death of tens of thousands of eagles. It’s now understood that eagles only attack sick or dead lambs, and have little real effect on the sheep industry.
The main threats to Wedge-tailed Eagles are tree-clearing and the loss of nesting sites; indirect poisoning from Dingo baits; secondary poisoning (eating rabbits laced with pindone, for instance); collision with overhead wires, fences, and with vehicles while eating road kill.
The Tasmanian subspecies is endangered due to the disturbance and loss of nesting sites: at least 40% of forests and dry woodlands have been cleared in Tasmania since settlement.
