Cold Front
Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (DE)
– (solo)

Trey Abdella’s works are built on the accumulation of materials, references, and emotional charge. His components are scavenged as much as selected, sourced through eBay listings, junk stores, or suburban leftovers. For Abdella, these objects carry traces of sentiment and absurdity, humor and discomfort synonymous to the emotional afterimage of American domestic life. Layers of resin and pigment mingle with lenticular prints, glittering fragments, and broken ceramic.

EMMA ROSE SCHWARTZ (b. 1992, Toronto, Canada) lives and works in New York. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2014) and an MFA from Columbia University (2019). Through a process of layering, erasing, and carving into un-stretched canvas, Schwartz builds paintings that hold both image and sediment, where the surface becomes a record of touch and revision. Her compositions often unfold in folkloric or suburban settings, drawn from memory, myth, and the architecture of her Nashville upbringing, where figures appear as recurring archetypes of the self. Her work examines how identity, inheritance, and fiction coalesce in the act of depiction.

Relevant exhibitions include Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2026, solo, forthcoming); Andrew Kreps Gallery, New York (2026, forthcoming); Derosia, New York (2025, solo); Brunette Coleman, London (2024, solo); In Lieu, Los Angeles (2023, solo); Annarumma Gallery, Naples (2022, solo); Chapter, New York (2021, solo); Margot Samel, New York (2024); Hesse Flatow, New York (2024); Paulina Caspari, Munich (2024); Thierry Goldberg, New York (2023); Christian Andersen, Copenhagen (2022); and In Lieu, Los Angeles (2022). She received the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Venice Award (2019) and was artist in residence at Xenia Creative Retreat (2025).

“The images in the ‘Carapace’ series come from a digital model of a beetle that I captured and explored. The digital reduction of the insect into a hollow shell, stripped of its anatomy, feels uncanny to me, especially having studied evolutionary biology. Within the 3D space, the viewer can move through the form, collapsing the boundary between inside and outside.

That navigation feels spatially disorienting, and I see that reflected in the paintings. You can’t tell if you’re looking at something close or far, or whether it’s a subject, a landscape, or a celestial expanse.” – Brett Ginsburg

Bug Bites
KMAC Museum, Louisville (US)
– (solo)

Born in Virginia, now living in New York, Trey Abdella is an artist with a background in illustration, animation, and classical figurative oil painting. Influenced by the worlds of stagecraft and cinema, his work is inspired by aspects of horror, haunted houses, old theme parks, and the eerie nature of the exurban landscape. Through hyperrealist painting and molded resin fused with found objects and 3D holograms, his images deploy a signature form of illusionistic depth, bridging the areas of painting, sculpture, assemblage, video, and mechanical contraption. With his interest in craft and folklore, KMAC is an ideal space for his first museum solo show in the United States.

TREY ABDELLA’s ‘Cold Front’ reviewed by Duncan Ballantyne-Way for

“Quiet Horror, Cheerful Grin”
Spike #86 – Salad Days
Winter 25/26

“Perfectly timed with yuletide, the dense, tonally varied, mixed-media assemblages of Trey Abdella (*1994), of West Virginia, dangle a promise of festive cheer, only to expose the fickle, superficial sentiment that lies beneath. Even when he tones down his more cartoonish excess, and works in a more illustrative, realist mode – as in ‘A Little Birdie Told Me’ (all works 2025), a beautifully rendered painting of a young boy whose face is obscured by an oversized pinecone – any hint of tenderness is stripped away by the seemingly random inclusion, in the center of the boy’s eye, of a howling man. It’s typical of the artist, offering the comfort of familiar, mawkish imagery, only to crush it...”

Trey Abdella’s work reckons with the horror and melancholy of the American dream. Blurring the lines between painting, sculpture, and assemblage, he utilizes a number of techniques to create hyperrealist, mixed-media works. Abdella works with acrylic, resin, fiberglass, 3D hologram fans, and other materials and incorporates a variety of found objects such as wigs, fake flowers, toys and Christmas decorations, playing on the illusionistic depth in his scenes.

Melting Sands
Sammlung Philara, Düsseldorf (DE)

MELTING SANDS examines glass as a material and substances that could replace it. What can we learn from glass? What metaphors or utopias lie concealed in its contradictory materiality? The exhibition proposes the hypothesis that glass, like no other material, allows us to visualise complexity and contradiction.

BRETT GINSBURG

Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Munich (DE)

Expanding on his ongoing series of Multiplier and Carapace works, Brett Ginsburg revisits earlier motifs and processes, translating them through new atmospheric conditions, material realities, and conceptual frameworks. The paintings fold mechanical and biological references, such as engine interiors, insect shells, and geological fissures, into hybrid, mutable forms that oscillate between recognition and abstraction.
