Yes Still, this amazing city remains a powerful center of art, cinema and music that gave the tone to all the Arab world: the home of legendary films, timeless voices like the one and only Diva Om Kalthoum, and even nowadays dancers from distant lands like Russia who fell in love with and embraced this rich culture.
Whether you love it or struggle with it, Cairo never leaves you indifferent.
It is simply bittersweet to see the cradle of civilizations also revealing some of humanity’s most challenging social contrasts.

Mais s’il y a un ouvrage qui mérite d’être lu et relu en ces temps de technofascisme assumé et de dictatures en herbe, c’est bien celui de, avec cette couverture aussi intrigante qu’ironique représentant Sartre aux lunettes 🤓 cassées.
Ce livre tente d’analyser plusieurs cas de figure où des intellectuels au pouvoir (politique, médiatique, juridique, etc.) se sont systématiquement trompés dès lors qu’ils ont épousé une idéologie théoriquement idyllique, mais pratiquement impertinente, voire destructrice.
« Certaines idées sont tellement absurdes que seuls des intellectuels peuvent y croire », disait George Orwell. La démocratie n’a pas toujours raison,le peuple non plus, d’ailleurs. L’Histoire a montré à maintes reprises les dérives de ce choix politique, surtout lorsque les élus rationalisent l’absurde et que la masse vulgaire, pour reprendre Zola, le légitime.
L’aveuglement collectif est une conséquence classique de l’égarement des élites. Et puisque ces dernières se prétendent être la lumière, de quelle obscurité ose-t-on alors parler?

This year I watched fewer movies than I used to, but here’s my take:
1. One Battle After Another
Epic, funny, sarcastic, and necessary. This film ticks every box: acting, narrative, editing. A sharp, second-degree satire of two ideologies clashing endlessly, made “normal” by capitalist supremacy. It reminds me real life:) Ridiculously smart, with epic performances by DiCaprio and a magistral Sean Penn. A MUST.
2. Bugonia
Surreal fantasy meets sci-fi by the master of aesthetic minimalism and beautiful weirdness: Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer). Emma Stone, of course her recent choices are flawless. Totally fan! A twisted take on conspiracy theories and the toxic vulgarization of information. Pure Lanthimos till the end. For purists only.
3. Train Dreams
Avoid if you’re not immune to heavy poetic drama. Depressing, yes but essential. A reminder that not all lives are glorious or successful, and that millions pass in silence while we glorify wealth and fantasy. A film that makes you question your own life.
The next three aren’t artistic masterpieces, but they exist because they carry the legacy of Hollywood monsters:
4. Tom Cruise with Mission impossible
Incredible at his age in this final reckoning. No Oscars, no heavy drama, yet the ultimate blockbuster icon. Pure Hollywood action, impossible physique and mindset. Mind blowing 🤯 in action!
5. George Clooney
Finally, the best role of his career. This film is cinema, it’s life: full of disappointments, successes, and self-irony. The espresso pretty boy finally found the perfect fit and I was really happy for him! Poetic!
6. Brad Pitt
How could I leave out Hollywood’s eternal bad boy? Physically demanding role, perfectly delivered. Light, entertaining, and worth watching …if only for the aesthetics of this Apollo… and my love for speed and F1 🏎️
I clearly need to watch more films to deliver more critics..promise I’ll catch up in 2026 🎬✨
