Dombaumeister Richard Voigtel (1829–1906, amt. 1862–1906) steht etwas im Schatten seines berühmten Vorgängers Ernst Friedrich Zwirner (amt. 1833–1861). Dabei war er es, der den Kölner Dom 1880 vollendete. Nach einer Ausbildung zum Feldmesser war er zwischen 1849 und 1851 Schüler der königlichen Bauakademie in Berlin. Erste berufliche Erfahrungen sammelte er unter anderem beim Bau der Weichselbrücke in Dirschau (poln. Tczew). 1855 wurde er mit nur 26 Jahren auf Initiative von Zwirner zum Bauführer an den Kölner Dom berufen – zwei Jahre später zu dessen Stellvertreter.
Gerade Voigtels Erfahrung im Brückenbau mag für Zwirner ausschlaggebend für die Wahl gewesen sein. Mit ihm hatte er einen im Eisenbau erfahren jungen Bauingenieur an der Seite, der die technischen Planungen zum eisernen Dachstuhl und Vierungsturm des Domes durchführen konnte.
Nach Zwirners Tod wurde Voigtel sein Nachfolger. In seine Amtszeit fällt die Einwölbung von Lang- und Querhaus und vor allem die Vollendung der Westfassade mit ihren beiden Türmen. Nach deren Vollendung konzentrierten sich die Arbeiten auf Nachbesserungen am Bau, den Bau der Chordächer und die Innenausstattung. Voigtel starb am 28. September 1902.

Der Texter, Komponist und Musiker Gregor Linßen ist ein Solitär der geistlichen Musik in Deutschland: philosophische Texte zum Mit- und Weiterdenken, Musik ohne Schubladen und eine Spielfreude im Raum, in dem er Konzerte als Gesamtkunstwerke inszeniert.
Das Chorprojekt ALCANTO ist ein offenes, bundesdeutsches Chorprojekt mit Menschen, deren Anliegen es ist, Pfingsten als dritte besondere Nacht des Christentums mit einem musikalischen Friedensgebet erlebbar zu machen. Die Gruppe AMI ist die renommierte Band um Gregor Linßen, deren jazziger Grundsound mit einem klassischen Blechbläserquintett und der großen Kirchenorgel filigrane bis satte Klänge und schwebende bis tanzende Grooves erzeugt.
Die Leitung hat die Osnabrücker Kirchenmusikdirektorin Maria Hartelt.

Der mittelalterliche Glasmalereizyklus des Chorobergadens entstand vor etwa 700 Jahren. Das sogenannte Fenster Nord V ist derzeit ausgebaut und wird restauriert. Dank der besonders sensiblen Wartungen und zurückhaltenden Reparaturen in der Vergangenheit, verfügt es noch über sein mittelalterliches Bleinetz und besteht zu etwa 95 % aus den ursprünglichen Gläsern. Dennoch hat die Zeit ihre Spuren hinterlassen: Verschmutzungen, Korrosionserscheinungen am Glas sowie Brüche. Einige gesprungene Gläser gingen verloren und waren durch neue, intakte Gläser ersetzt worden. Bereits vor der Entwicklung moderner Klebstoffe gab es jedoch Methoden, Glasfragmente zu sichern – eine davon ist die sogenannte Trockendoublierung. Dabei setzte man die historischen Bruchstücke präzise zusammen und fügte zur Fixierung entlang der Bruchkanten teils etwas Kitt ein. Zusätzlich sorgten je ein farbloses Deckglas auf der Innen- und Außenseite, ähnlich einem Sandwich, für den sicheren Zusammenhalt der Fragmente. Auf diese Weise konnten auch stark beschädigte Gläser bewahrt werden.
Im Zuge der aktuellen Restaurierung soll diese etwa 100 Jahre alte Maßnahme in den Gesichtern der dargestellten Könige erhalten bleiben. Es wird eine Reinigung der Glasoberflächen der Doublierungen durchgeführt.
