2 years. This month marks 2 years that we’ve now been in our new build. It’s taken me two years to feel confident in my vision for this corner. In all honesty, it’s taken this long because it did not get built the way I had envisioned the space. I had envisioned longer windows that filled the space with light that I could sit on a bench and look out the windows and enjoy the beauty that surrounds our home. I had romanticized how I would be using the space. But while we were building I was not asked how/what windows I wanted here. Instead windows had them placed before I realized what had happened. Then I thought I could still make it work. Nope. Everything I tried when I sat down I just saw wall. Now I have adjusted my vision and I am starting to make it come to light. First step was painting the trim to see if I love the color or not and I do! Instantly I felt like it had more warmth, which I am craving. My paint job around the bottom is not good but that’s because it will be covered. Second phase will start in February. But for now, my heart feels a little warmer and my smile has gotten a little bigger. A new house definitely takes time to make a home. And it’s important to know when building not all things turn out how you envision. I’ve given myself time to live in the house and get the real sense of how I want it to feel for me and my family and guests. This is the year I am getting back into my “decor”.

Looking forward to looking back on August to see the change between the month with letting everything mature a little bit more. Already there is so much more grass in the garden area - there are more plants around the chicken coop.

This was the first project we tackled in the house. We moved in the house in January and we completed this in February. I’d had this vision of this “after” since the start of designing the layout of the house. I knew I wanted a clear shot from the kitchen at the back of the house to the front of the house and being able to look through my sought after Dutch door! The brick herringbone floors are the cherry on top!

Seeing the house become the vision I had envisioned has been so fun and an amazing experience. Building this house has been a great distraction this last year with the passing of both of my grandparents and especially with the passing of my dad. Just so wish they could have been here to watch it come to reality with me.

It’s been awhile…big changes over here. In July after a job offer in another state we sold our home in Washington. We listed on a Thursday morning and had the house sold on Friday night! 30 days later and we were bound for our next journey. I have changed my handle on here as well to reflect our new location.
