After completing his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts, he received a scholarship from the Italian government and studied in Milan. Since returning to Japan, he has remained unaffiliated with any realist art collective, pursuing bold, rustically vivid realist oil painting in his home region of Yamagata.
In this exhibition, titled Fūka-shō (Notes on Weathering), he renders the tense interplay between the passage of time and nature through traditional Western painting techniques, giving form to a realist world that lingers in the memory. Its meticulous textures and tranquil compositions seem to echo the artist‘s own question—”What is reality?“—a reality that is anything but cinematic.

Tenmaya is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Yuzuru Nakamura, a member (dōnin) of the Japan Art Institute (Nihon Bijutsuin).
Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1964, Yuzuru Nakamura distinguished himself at the Inten exhibitions after completing his graduate studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Following numerous accolades—including the Inten Encouragement Prize (2003, 2004) and the Japan Art Institute Prize (Taikan Prize, 2006, 2008)—he was elected a dōnin member of the Japan Art Institute in 2016. After serving at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he has devoted himself since 2001 to mentoring the next generation as a professor at Onomichi City University, and is active as one of the leading Nihonga (Japanese-style) painters representing the Chūgoku region.
Titled "Memories of the Sea Breeze," this exhibition brings together new works depicting the familiar landscapes of the Seto Inland Sea, along with the seaside towns and scenery that have been the artist's lifelong subject.

於東京藝術大學研究所畢業後，名和智明獲義大利政府獎學金赴米蘭留學。歸國後並未隸屬於任何寫實派團體，而是在故鄉山形持續鑽研筆觸厚實、洋溢野趣的寫實洋畫。
本次展覽以「風化抄」為題，運用傳統西洋畫技法描繪出時光流轉與自然之間那份充滿張力的關係，呈現出令人難忘的寫實世界。其精緻的質感與靜謐的畫面，彷彿正回應著畫家對所謂非影像式的「真實（Reality）究竟為何？」這道提問。

延長六年（929），從奧州白河前來熊野參詣的修行僧中，有一位名叫安珍的美男子。莊司清次之女清姬對安珍一見鍾情。正在修行之中的安珍無法躲開清姬的熱情追求，只好騙其說回去以後定會再來相見，在參拜結束後立刻離開了。到了約定的日子，安珍並沒有出現，狂怒的清姬不顧旁人的目光，赤裸著雙足四處尋找安珍。終於在上野之里找到安珍後，安珍卻再次欺騙她說認錯了人，並向熊野權現求助，趁著清姬被綁住時逃跑，乘船渡過了日高川。悲憤至極點的清姬因無法乘船，一念起而化作毒蛇之身，緊追不捨。走投無路的安珍躲進道成寺的大鐘內，仍被發現。清姬以蛇身卷住大鐘，以火焚之三時有餘，人莫能近。燒死安珍後，清姬也投河自盡。此後，道成寺的住持夢見安珍清姬轉生蛇道，遂念法華經供養，終使二人轉入天人道。
其實，安珍與清姬分別是熊野權現和觀世音菩薩的化身，這個故事本是為了宣揚法華經的功德。然而清姬對待愛情之激烈之執著，其哀怨與憤怒甚至具現化為毒蛇和火焰，令這個故事以濃烈的感情色彩，至今仍廣受喜愛。
笹本正明將清姬傳說傳說與美人畫融合，岩彩畫厚重的質感表現出神秘妖冶的氛圍，清姬的哀怨與對愛情的執著躍然紙上。

土蜘蛛是一種在日本各地傳說中常常出現的妖怪。《太平記》中就記載了平安中期武將源賴光退治土蜘蛛的故事。源賴光與家臣渡邊剛在蓮台野看到骷髏飛騰於空中。遂追於其後，來到了神樂岡荒廢的古宅前。他們在古宅中接連遇到了種種異形之物，至拂曉前，出現了一位美女。賴光斬下其頭顱後，女子留下白色的血跡消失了，而賴光的刀尖也折斷不見了。為防萬一，賴光用藤條製成人偶，令其在前方跟著白色血跡前行，於是一行人跟著人偶來到了西山的洞穴，洞中出現了一隻痛苦的巨大怪物。有什麼從洞中飛出，刺向人偶，原來是之前不見的刀尖的碎片。賴光等人將怪物從洞中拖出斬下其頭顱，才發現那是一隻巨大的山蜘蛛。其傷口處出現了1990個死人頭，以及無數只人類孩童般大小的小蜘蛛。賴光等人埋了山蜘蛛的頭，又放火燒掉其住處後，回到了平安京。

杉山的繪畫常使用粗顆粒的礦物顏料。他用蠟筆勾線，再在避開線條的地方，用粗糙的礦物顆粒均勻厚塗，會形成宛如烤制甜品時表面產生的質感。顆粒的大小帶來畫面表情的變化，粗細顆粒的組合構成了畫面的豐富機理。同時，蠟筆與細顆粒的顏料對於刻畫細節有所限制，杉山不斷改變、提煉物形，探索用最精簡的線條便能傳達內容的「最適形態」。充滿手作感的畫面彷彿擁有溫度一般，總能帶來會心一笑。

「當我開始向院展投稿作品時，我覺得當時幾乎沒有其他畫家與我風格相近，某種程度上可以說是被視為『異端』。也曾有人對我說，這是好畫，但令人費解，是一種深奧難懂的畫。創作的根本在於『畫出自己能夠認同的畫』。然而，答案並不會立刻浮現，所以我總是帶著不安與苦悶進行創作。」
本次展覽以「溫故創新」為題，展現了吉村以傳統為基礎的同時，不安於既有框架、持續嘗試更新表現方式的姿態，從中可見他對日本畫的熱切情感，以及不斷追求獨特表現、永不滿足的挑戰精神。

吉村誠司是當代日本畫壇的領軍人物。他出生於1960年，進入東京藝術大學後曾師從平山郁夫、福井爽人等著名畫家。並在畢業時一舉斬獲Salon de Printemps賞，初露頭角。碩士畢業時，吉村在第一屆有芽會展覽上獲得法務大臣賞，此後一邊執教於母校東京藝術大學，一邊在日本美術院展覽上發表作品，並於1996年憑借《白韻》獲得大觀賞，備受矚目。1998年第83屆院展上，他以《透過玻璃》再次獲得大觀賞，一躍而為院展的支柱畫家。
