✨MMAAYBE✨

This beautiful specimen of Pulsatrix perspicillata, known as the spectacled owl or oropopo, is a nocturnal bird of prey that can be found from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. The main distinguishing feature of this species is its large yellow eyes and its unmistakable facial drawing that gives this species its name.

Mmaaybe, arrived at KSTR on 1/5/22 after getting stuck on a wire overnight. Luckily for him, only a small injury was observed in the eye, which is healing very quickly.

We are very happy that this little one will be able to fly free again very soon! 🦉💖

✨MMAAYBE✨

🎉Happy 2022🎉

2021 has been a tough year for everyone, but it was also full of really nice moments. If we have to choose, our favorite memories are all the successful rescues that we had this year🙊, all those injured animals that came to our clinic and were able to go back to nature to be wild animals again🔝.

We hope to be able to rescue even more animals in 2022🐾.

From everyone in Kids Saving The Rainforest we wish you a very happy New Year🎆

✨ALICIA✨

This two-toed sloth (Choloepus hoffmanni) arrived at KSTR on 11/25/21.

Unfortunately, Alicia was seized in the same place as our little Firefly, for the same recreational purpose at the expense of her health and freedom. When she arrived at the rescue center, she had malnutrition and dehydration, superficial wounds on all her legs, a broken nail and part of her upper lip torn, signs that may indicate excessive mishandling... 😔

After a few weeks of treatment and rehabilitation, we can finally see her in the last pre-release step, where she will spend several more weeks with firefly and they can be released in their natural habitat where they belong.

❌We must remember that wild animals are NOT pets and illegal businesses like this should not be supported.❌

Thanks to all the responsible citizens and tourists who visit us and admire the beauty of the wild fauna always with respect! 🦜🦥🐍🐒

✨ALICIA✨

MYSTERY IN BOOTCAMP 🕵🏻‍♀️
First of all, bootcamp is a pre-release area where sloths and other animals are prepared for life in nature. It is an area as large as a soccer field, fenced, open-air and with a completely natural vegetation. This is the last step before returning to nature.
The animals that are brought into this space must be equipped with GPS collar, necessary to be able to track them to bring food (they are not yet fully accustomed to procure it alone) and assist them (medical checks, weight...). Currently our little Firefly is in bootcamp and every day volunteers and staff bring her hanger of almond tree leaves (sloth's favorite) twice a day and vegetables in the evening.

A few weeks ago, however, some strange tracks were found🔍... The leaves had been eaten in a strange way, there was poop not sloth just crossed the gate and the vegetables seemed chewed by a type of teeth not conforming to that of Firefly...
Worried that our little sloth was not eating enough a few days ago we decided to place a photo trap and this is what we discovered: the thief you see in the video is Oscar the opossum, an arboreal marsupial characterized by a prehensile tail🐀.
We have no idea how he got into the bootcamp (the whole area is fenced by a wall two meters high and there are no branches on which can pass to enter) but we know that he likes the place very much, especially the cuisine!

Regarding the leaves, most of them were devouring by the leaf-cutting ants to make real litter inside the anthill🐜.

Fortunately, thanks to the photo trap, we also found out that in addition to all these unexpected guests even Firefly queues the feast.. sharing it with all her new roommates of her!

What’s a monkey doing in a blue box? 🐒📦

Simple, she’s just having fun in one of the new environmental enhancements designed specifically for her... and unsuspectingly acting as a guinea pig in a research project for the three-year thesis on animal husbandry and welfare of one of our interns, Elisa, straight from Italy.

Purpose of the project is to see the different manipulations adopted by three different types of monkeys (Titi, Capuchin and Spider monkey), all endemic in Costa Rica, and hosted in our wildlife sanctuary in KSTR.

It will also be very interesting to see how these species approach an unknown object, strange and never seen before, which will be presented sporadically within a couple of weeks, and containing prizes in delicious "camouflaged" food.

The research is still at the beginning but for now Hugo seems to appreciate the efforts of our intern.

Are you a student of veterinary/biology/animal welfare/ethology...etc? Perfect! If you are interested in the field of research come to KSTR and start your internship experience with us! 📝You will enjoy it!!!

Do you want more info about our internship opportunities⁉️ you can write us to our email

Matchday‼️ - for our capuchin monkeys Hugo, Hector and Moncho🐒.

Our sanctuary team and the volunteers have been replacing the fence💪 of the monkey's enclosure for a couple of weeks.

This is important because the fence protects the monkeys from lizards, wildlife monkeys who steal the food and snakes. Two months ago we found a ferdelance🐍 in the cage. Luckily, all three monkeys were ok.

To repair the cage the old net must be removed and a new one has to be attached via zip. Our employees have to climb up high in order to reach everything😱.

Let's hope that the diligent and dangerous work gets Hugo, Hector and Moncho the safety they need.

🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

✨TEO✨
Teo is a young Squirrel (Titi) Monkey arrive at KSTR on November 8th after being electrocuted by faulty high voltage wires. Although the burns were not particularly severe, he had a head trauma, probably because of the fall, and was in a hard state of shock. He was unable to move or eat anything and didn’t react to any stimulus. We feared the worst. But Teo has shown us that he is a strong boy: after a week he began to swallow the food and lick some pieces of watermelon and we started to feed him with a delicious smoothie made of watermelon🍉, banana🍌, eggs 🍳 and delicious chopped... worms🪱!
Every day we do massages for stimulate his circulation and a few days ago he started to move himself. He is not yet fully able to control his movements but the fact that he is trying is a great news that gives us a lot of hope about his future.
Good luck Teo, have a fast recovery 🤞🏻

✨TEO✨
