In the looping light animation, objects are no longer still they respond and speak through rhythm and shadow. Synopsis
A man named, Khandakar Selim dreams of making a museum until the nature devastates his imagination with a thunderstorm, creating a source of conflict within his dream. In the end, he fantasises about his museum on the Moon.
Khandakar Ohida (b. 1993) is a visual artist and filmmaker working between Kolkata and New Delhi. Her practice is deeply influenced by her surroundings, thinking through personal memories, marginalised voices, and notions of collective protest and resistance in and against societal layers. Ohidaโs interdisciplinary, non-linear practice traverses lens-based mediums, film installations, drawings, and contemporary interpretations of miniature paintings. She attained her BFA in Painting from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta (2016) and her MFA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (2018).
Her filmโฏDream Your Museumโฏwas screened at the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany (2022), and subsequently at the 59th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia, as part of the public programming in the Ukraine Pavilion (2022), alongside at The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg as part of a group exhibition in 2024. This film won the seventh Jameel Prize by V&A London and Art Jameel, and is currently on view in their group exhibition in the UK.

In creating alternative museum narratives that challenge traditional methods of representing object and artifacts, Khandakar Ohida aspires to recontextualize museums not as an institution of preservation but as a site of transformation, where memory, imagination, and care creates an alternative space. Ohidaโs long-term collaboration with her uncle, Khandakar Selim, called Museum on the Moon, traces an intimate struggle to reimagine a community museum in rural India. To date, the project includes a documentary feature film, an interactive virtual reality interface, and a speculative blueprint for archives of human experience.
