Then you get closer and the detail pulls you in. Every surface is dense with line, figures tangled into architecture, animals folding into ornament, towers that could be standing or falling depending on how long you look. On denim he draws in white, reversing everything. On raw linen he lets the weave do half the work.
The hand-cut pieces are where the show gets physical. He removes so much material that shadows pool behind the cloth, and the negative space starts to feel structural, like the skeleton of a building after everything else has gone.

أول ما تلاحظه هو القماش. ليس قماشاً مشدوداً على إطار كما تتوقع، بل قماش خام متهالك الأطراف، مقطوع في أماكن عدة حتى يصبح الجدار خلفه جزءاً من العمل. يتعامل مراد مع خاماته كما يتعامل عالم آثار مع موقع حفرية: بعناية، لكن من دون أن يتظاهر بأن شيئاً ما زال سليماً.
ثم تقترب أكثر فتسحبك التفاصيل إلى الداخل. كل سطح مكتظ بالخطوط، أجساد متشابكة مع عمارة، حيوانات تنطوي في زخارف، أبراج قد تكون قائمة أو آيلة للسقوط بحسب المدة التي تمضيها في النظر. على الدنيم يرسم بالأبيض فيقلب كل شيء. وعلى الكتان الخام يترك للنسيج أن يؤدي نصف المهمة.
الأعمال المقطوعة يدوياً هي حيث يصبح المعرض مادياً وملموساً. يزيل من القماش ما يكفي لتتجمع الظلال خلفه، ويبدأ الفراغ يبدو وكأنه عنصر إنشائي، كهيكل مبنى بعد أن ذهب كل شيء آخر.

Acrylic on cotton fabric and hand cut. 300 cm high and 160 cm in diameter 3 layer.
Tower is one of my latest works, exploring the way memory, imagination, and personal experience shape the stories we create. As viewers move around the panel, each section may evoke different memories or emotions. Looking through the cutout windows reveals layered images and hidden connections, allowing new narratives to emerge with every step.
I wanted the work to become an open space for interpretation — where each individual can build their own story through their own memories and experiences. Through this process, Tower becomes a meeting place between cultures, inviting dialogue, reflection, and shared humanity. Was part of and it will continue to be on view Dubai now until June 5th
Known for transforming personal and collective histories into immersive contemporary works, Mourad’s practice explores displacement, cultural identity, and human connection through intricate hand-drawn compositions and live mark-making performances.

This Syrian Armenian artist based in New York has created an ink illustration technique displayed on cut out linen that allows him to tell stories while layering different aspects of the ancient civilizations he is a descendant of. His work is filling with messages of peace and harmony.
