I've never made an "end of the year" recap before. Probably because most of my years are pretty standard and boring. But 2025 was different. I made the biggest change in my life to date - and I hate change. Change is scary, routine is safe. But covid murdered my industry, life was becoming monotonous, and there was little holding me down in Canada. So I moved to Japan, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Since then I've missed my family and my dog, but I've had so many new experiences that I've enjoyed immensely and met so many new people I can't thank them all for being a part of my life here. I'm happy here. Time has absolutely flown by since I've moved here at the end of March. These last 9 months have felt like a 2 week blur somehow.

When I came here, I told myself I was going to be a new person. That this was my mid-life crisis reset. I can start fresh again, and I feel like I have. I feel like a completely different person here in Japan than I did back in Canada. In a good way, of course. I feel happier and I enjoy my life right now.

I don't have a new years resolution for 2026, I'm pretty content with things for now. But I can't wait to see what tomorrow and beyond has in store.

Sometimes a cute girl just wants to be cool and sexy instead of just cute. So what do you do? Say "Yea, let's make you look like you own the streets of Shinjuku".

Yui here absolutely killed it in these shots we did in Shinjuku! Walking around like the streets turned the lights on just for her.

Absolutely in love with these images from! I keep telling people that Japan is the ultimate photographer playground. There's so many places to shoot and create beautiful imagery. Even if it's just an aquarium featuring only goldfish, Japan can make it seem like a magical place.

Just felt like taking some portraits on a hot summer day in a plain park with nothing but a phone booth.

Turns out Japanese phone booths make for great portrait spots... Who woulda guessed!

I'm very used to having strobes and off-camera lighting when doing portraits. I'm not a natural light shooter by any means, because it's outside if my control and there's a part of me that hates that feeling.

But of course I couldn't drag all my lighting gear with me to Tokyo, so I have to improvise with the artificial lights around me. Finding stationary sources of light to shoot with turned out to be a very fun and rewarding challenge.

Thankfully Tokyo is one of the easier cities to do these kinds of shots in, since there's so much artificial light everywhere.

Here's a shop you've probably seen or at least hard of if you've lived in Edmonton: Hong Kong Bakery. Chip Tang is a 3rd generation baker, and his family opened the first Chinese bakery in Alberta in the 70s, and then the 80s in Canada. They've been here nearly 40 years! And have been baking Chinese pastries for 3 generations!

That's insane! They clearly know what they're doing with all that experience, as throughout that time they've managed to survive economic downturns, covid-19, and the recent downturn in Chinatown. But that just means they're worth visiting.

Big thanks to for their help in connecting me with the various shops in Chinatown and for sponsoring this project, both of whom were vital in helping me highlight Edmonton's Chinatown.

The actual properly edited versions of some quick portraits I did of.the.sun in Seoul.

I walked by this bar with this absolutely epic entryway and thought "Damn this would be a sick portrait spot". Then 15 minutes later after I had left, I came back. Because I absolutely had to do a shot here. With only an LED advertising sign to the left as my source of light, I stood around for a while waiting for someone who looked like they could really rock this space.

Then I found.the.sun and her friend, and noticed they spoke English which was great cause I literally can't speak Korean.

And by pure chance she has modelling experience, so she just absolutely nailed the posing and vibes.

The LED advert sign kept changing colours, so it was tricky to get white light, and decided to try one coloured light for fun, but it lowkey hurts my eyes lol.
Van Loc is a Vietnamese sub shop in Chinatown that may have faded into the history books if it weren't for William Chen and Wilson Wong, two partners who bought the business in 2023.

Van Loc has been around since 1997, nearly 30 years now. William and Wilson are keeping their flavour alive today, and at the same time, are a big drive in revitalizing Edmonton's Chinatown as a whole. William was recently re-elected chair of the Chinatown BIA, which is a big driving force into improving the vibrancy and visibility of Chinatown going.

If you haven't heard of Van Loc yet, I don't know where you've been living because they've been making a name for themselves to sandwich lovers outside of Chinatown and outside of typical Asian circles.

This is the 3rd installment of my Chinatown photo project, which has lowkey turned into a video project by accident. This was doable largely thanks to the help of and the sponsorship from. Thanks to both organizations.

There's a tiny snippet of audio in there I couldn't clean up... I'm sure you'll know where it is. But I'm still fairly new to video, and this was never meant to be a video project to begin with. But hopefully I keep improving with each one.

Have you ever wondered which was the first bubble tea shop in Edmonton? You've probably heard of tea masters, but what about Bubble Tea masters? Tea Bar Cafe owner Andy has been making bubble tea for 30 years! 25 of those have been in Edmonton. Fair to say, he's a master of bubble tea.

He introduced Bubble Tea to the city of Edmonton for the first time in the late 90s, in a small little cafe called 'Tea Cottage'. Which only lasted a year before turning into the 'Tea Bar Cafe', which has stood the test of time, covid19, and the troubles and turbulence of Chinatown. But Andy and his shop are still going strong.

He's a one man show opening from 11:30am all the way till 1am for the late nighters, all by himself! That's some dedication to his craft right there.

I personally loved the white rabbit bubble tea, but there's so many to choose from you can find something new each time you visit. So go check out the store, and say hi to Andy, he's a super nice guy.

It's a short 17 second video and yet it took so much work to make, wtf. Videography is wild... Next thing you know I spent like 3 hours getting it to look the way I wanted it to. But it's pretty, right?
