Is this considered a cityscape or landscape? šŸ¤” ā€œtownscapeā€?

I learned on this trip that all these super long, seemingly impossible to pronounce Icelandic words are actually quite literal. They are small words put together into longer ones, and the towns themselves are just words. For example, Vik literally means the bay or harbor, which is exactly where this little beautiful place is.
.
The sun couldn’t quite push through these clouds for some color but.. blue hour is also one of my favorite times to shoot! As per typical Iceland weather, we were treated to some crazy winds while standing here. After the first 10 minutes, we learned you can actually HEAR the wind approaching cause it was so strong. Even with a few seconds of time to mentally and physically prepare for the incoming blast of freezing Atlantic air, I am not exaggerating when I say the wind literally blew me off my feet 🌬
.
Hoping everyone is staying well and healthy!

If I could bring anybody along with me on my photography trips, I would bring a meteorologist. I have 15 weather apps on my phone and I still can’t conclude which one is more accurate. So much about planning where to shoot is based on weather and if you’ve ever visited Iceland, you know the weather literally changes by the hour
.
This was the only sunrise/sunset with good colors we caught in Iceland and I’m thankful we even caught one. I already knew where I wanted to shoot this morning so we hurried here, but the color started coming out FAST. The clouds were already starting to light up when we arrived so there was barely any time to set up or look for a comp. I didn’t even put on my filter on and just started shooting. I think smoother waves would’ve been nice, but I do quite like seeing the movement of the waves here too
.
It was so frantic that at one point I was clicking shutters on my main camera set to a tripod (this photo), shooting handheld with my second body and telephoto, while also trying to record videos on my iPhone šŸ˜‚
.
The black sand beaches all over Iceland is definitely one of its highlights. I especially love it on the winter with some snow, giving it great contrast. I’m always amazed at how sea stacks form and just stand there almost awkwardly in the ocean, but they’re beautiful and certainly make for great objects to photograph

Over the last 3 years, Oregon has been my number one destination to travel to. Some of my friends balk at the idea of driving even 1-2 hours to local destinations for a weekend, but when there are views like these I don’t hesitate to do the 7 hour drive. Heck, last summer I drove 11 hours one way in one go to meet up with in southern Oregon, and we got the most amazing conditions with bioluminescence
.
It’s seriously like waterfalls heaven over there, with every waterfall being different and unique. I looove that moment when you see a new waterfall for the first time. Sometimes you catch glimpses of it as you hike closer and closer, but this one took me off guard with how much taller it was than I expected
.
You can’t see the full falls here due to the crop, but it was such a beauty that I just had to take a selfie with it. Usually just one person need to model but pretty sure on this one and I all took turns to get our own selfies in haha

How many of you have seen the Milky Way core? I remember vividly the first time I saw it. For a split second I wasn’t sure if it was actually what I thought it was, but it was unmistakeable. The Milky Way core was right there, tilted and slightly above the horizon. My eyes widened, I blinked a few times almost in disbelief and the words ā€œwowwwwā€ just kept coming out. I’ve seen it more times than I can count since then, but I still get my breath taken away every time
.
I usually like to take pictures of grand landscapes, places that immediately makes you go wow. But I also really liked these little cacti and I found, and it just happened to aligned really well with the Milk that night. There are endless compositions here in the Alabama Hills and I feel like nothing can look bad with the Milky Way as the backdrop
.
For those of you who have never seen the Milky Way core with your own eyes, I hope you set aside a weekend next year to go see it. It’s crazy how many stars you can see in the night sky once you get somewhere dark and far away from city lights

What do you guys do when life hits you hard? For me, nothing beats spending some time along the coast. I hear about the California coast all the time, and it’s considered one of the best coastal drives for good reason. BUT having been to both, I prefer the southern Oregon coast. The coastline there is more raw, less photographed, and a lot less crowded which makes a huuuge difference when trying to enjoy the serenity of being out in nature. It’s definitely underrated.
.
There’s so much to shoot here. I was debating between a few locations to shoot sunset at and this big ā€œrockā€ in the ocean with trees growing on top really caught my attention. I love seeing the waves crash on the rock too, showing the unique formation of the rock where it meets the ocean. Not sure if I’ve just got luck on my side, but I’ve hit great conditions both times I’ve visited Samuel Boardman. I always hear about how wet or foggy this part of the coast can get, yet last year we had clear skies for Milky Way AND saw bioluminescence in the ocean..
I didn’t plan much ahead of time in terms of photography for this trip. Sometimes planning too much puts a lot of added pressure and stress especially when it doesn’t work out, so it was nice to just get out and shoot whatever was around. Life gets hard sometimes, and that’s ok - just remember to to make time to do whatever it is that makes you happy!.

This will forever be one of the most memorable day/nights of my life, for better or for worse. It involved a complete lack of sleep (averaged 1-2 hours per day all week), getting the rental car stuck in a remote area with no cell service at night, catching a bad fever, and still driving 12 hours in a 20 hour span. Oh almost forgot the puking and fainting too.
.
I’ll always be thankful to that stranger who helped me get my car out. I had hiked out 45 minutes in the dark when I saw his car, and I had to tap his windows to get his attention. Thank you for being friendly and willing to help. I almost gave up and left the area after getting the car unstuck, but after all this trouble I just had to get the shot I came for. After about 1.5 hours of sleep in the car, I stood in a windstorm to capture these unique geological features under a rising Milky Way. There’s something about these landscapes that makes it feel out of this world, and having the Milky Way rise behind it was perfect.
.
The effort-to-reward ratio was extremely high for this shot, which is why this photo is just that bit more special for me than my others. It really is a sweet area with tons of compositions available and I definitely plan to be back more prepared next time šŸš—

I’ve been to Monument Valley three times and each time the conditions were different. Once it was sunny with clear skies; another time it had snowed and covered the red soil in a magical blanket of white. This shot was taken almost immediately after it had just rained. It was a very short transition phase from pouring rain to partly cloudy, and Iā€˜d have to say that it was my favorite.
.
The condensation from the ground seemed to be evaporating, very rapidly too, creating this pretty cool scene all over the landscape. I don’t actually know the couple in the shot. They just happened to be walking towards me with one of the buttes directly behind them and I quite liked the scale. Monument Valley is pretty special in any condition, and next time I hope to catch a lightning here šŸ¤žšŸ¼
.
Recently I had my vehicle broken into. The same vehicle I drove from Canada down to the southwest on a 4 week long road trip. It made me think about how much I missed road trips, where the car was both my transportation, kitchen and home. is currently giving away a bunch of sweet gear valued over $2500 for 2 lucky winners, many of which I wish I had on my road trips.

Contest link is in the bio. If you win, feel free to share some of that new camping swag with me 😬

I’ve been exploring the desert and southwest so much lately that at first glance you probably couldn’t even tell I’m based in the Pacific Northwest, where it’s very green and generally very wet. A stark contrast to the desert scenes.
.
What I find special about waterfalls is how unique each one is. Everything from the way the water drops, to the landscapes surrounding the waterfall, no two falls are the same. Each one is formed and continue to be shaped by so many factors that make them truly one of a kind. Looking forward to exploring more waterfalls this summer!
.
Happy waterfall Wednesday!

Saw some crazy light beams this day on the sand dunes! There was a wind storm coming in so I was actually booking it to get out of the dunes, and caught this as I was leaving.
.
I usually like to plan my shots but this was not one of them. Found this shot buried somewhere in my Death Valley photos when it caught my eye as I went through those photos again. Makes me wonder what other cool photos I’ve missed.. Sometimes you never know what you’ll find when you go through old photos again! I’m also glad I kept snapping away even as I was walking out of the dunes that day.
.
Part of me really regret leaving before the wind storm. I can only imagine the photos I would’ve gotten on the dunes with some epic weather (and the sunset that day was šŸ”„). On the other hand, I’m also glad I didn’t get blasted by sand and my gear isn’t filled with tiny pieces of sand:)

Hands down one of my favorite moments from last year. Can’t believe I haven’t posted this, but with the Milky Way season back, hopefully this gives you all some inspiration to get out and shoot!
.
I had this shot in mind for quite some time, but as always I was concerned with the weather and the crowds here. Don’t be fooled when *most* tourists leave after sunset here. There are many photographers that stay behind with the same goal of capturing the Milky Way. Different ideas for composition and those who want to light the arch can lead to arguments and I’ve heard many of those stories.
.
I waited until a good week after the new moon to shoot this in hopes of less photographers. It was basically the last day of the month where it’d be dark enough and have the alignment, with only 30 minutes between the moon setting and astronomical twilight. (Thanks for the ability to plan this way ahead of time)There were only 3 other photographers shooting from a distance when and I arrived around 3:30am. For this shot, we had to be very close (this was 16mm) and thankfully we were able to convince them to come join us and shoot at this spot instead.
.
As I left my camera on timer, I laid on the rocks and admired this amazing sight. Watching the galactic core perfectly glide through the iconic Delicate Arch was mesmerizing, humbling, and therapeutic all at once. Definitely a night I won’t forget.
