The warrior Kumagai Naozane realizes that the enemy before him, Taira no Atsumori, is no different in age from his own son.
In that instant, he confronts the weight of his karma.
In Japanese Buddhism, karma is not punishment — it is consequence.
Red and black mark the burden of action.
Dark armor and muted flesh sink into blue mist — the world he believed in.
Atsumori is rendered in vivid color — dignity, youth, and impermanence.
Cracks fracture the upper space — the collapse of certainty.
Beneath Kumagai’s horo, the words “Namu Amida Butsu” are concealed — a trace of the path he will later follow.
Gold within his pupil suggests the dormant Buddha-nature.
In Japanese thought, awakening may arise even from within violence.

I separated the composition at the elbow to preserve the integrity of each world.

【ご報告】
本年初め、先代 本家彫よし建尚初代 村松建尚が永眠いたしました。
生前のご厚情に深く御礼申し上げます。
私は先代の志を受け継ぎ、
先代の本名「村松建尚」から「建尚」を取り「建尚弐代目」を名乗り、
後継者としてその技と精神を継承してまいりました。
なお、私が先代の本名から取った「建尚弐代目」を名乗ったことで、
先代は後年、自らの屋号に「建尚初代」を加えました。
また、8月には自分自身を深く見つめ直す大きな出来事がありました。
その経験も重なり、熟考の末に私自身の屋号を
「建尚（Kenshō / Kensho）」へと改めることにいたしました。
先代から受け継いだものをさらに昇華させるべく、
「後継者としての二代目」ではなく、
自らの進む道を「自分自身の二本の足」で立ち、歩む決意をいたしました。
これからは、先代の信念であった「破墨の心」、
伝統を土台に新たな世界を切り拓いてまいります。
今後とも変わらぬご支援とご愛顧のほど、
何卒よろしくお願い申し上げます。

【Announcement】
Earlier this year, my mentor and predecessor,
Takehisa (Kensho) Muramatsu, known as Honke Horiyoshi Kensho 1st, departed this world.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude
for all the guidance and support he bestowed upon me during his lifetime.
Carrying on the spirit of my predecessor,
I adopted the name “Kensho II (建尚弐代目)” from his given name, rather than “Honke Horiyoshi II,”
and as his successor,
I have inherited his skills and philosophy.
As I chose to succeed under the name “Kensho II,”
my predecessor later added “Kensho 1st” to his own artist name.
In August, a significant turning point led me to deeply reflect on myself.
And on this occasion, after much reflection,
I have decided to continue under the name “Kenshō (Kensho),”
not merely as “the second-generation successor,”
but standing on my own two feet, determined to elevate what I have inherited
and to lead the way on the path I choose for myself.
From now on, honoring my predecessor’s earnest wish
to uphold the spirit of HABOKU and building upon tradition,
I will strive to carve a new path in the world of Japanese tattooing.

(Unfortunately, I was quite far from the stage when the winners were announced on Sunday and missed the call to go up, so I wasn’t able to receive the award on stage.)
To add to this honor, I had the privilege of serving as one of the judge for the Best of Show on the final day.
Judging such world-class tattoo artists, each with their own unique styles, was honestly more challenging than tattooing itself.
From the wonderful pre-party, to tattooing alongside top-tier artists, to enjoying the beautiful scenery and delicious food—and even reconnecting with friends I hadn’t seen in years—it was an incredibly meaningful and enriching experience.
A heartfelt thank you to Alex san for inviting me to such an amazing convention.
ベネチアで開催された世界トップクラスの彫師達が集う新しいコンセプトのコンベンションで多くの幸運に恵まれ Legend Of The Industory / Moddern Tattoo Hall Of Fame受賞者3名の内の1人に選出されました。(残念ながら受賞者アナウンス時にステージからかなり離れた場所におり聞き逃してしまい壇上に上がりそびれてしまいました)。
そして最終日のBest Of Showの審査員を務めさせて頂きましたがどの作品も非常にレベルが高く審査員皆で議論を重ねましたが中々決まらず主催者から閉会が近いから早く決めてくれと急かされるほど大変でした。
素敵な前夜祭から始まり、美しい街並みと美味しい料理を堪能し、何年も会っていなかった友人達にも会え大変有意義な時間となりました。
素晴らしいコンベンションに招待してくださったアレックスさん誠にありがとうございました。

This license qualifies me as an honorary lecturer from the AAA Academy to speak at universities around the world as a professor of traditional Japanese arts.
In modern times, many people involved in traditional culture face a lack of successors specifically Japan. One of the reasons for this is that today’s young people have an impression that traditional culture is plain and old-fashioned.
As an extension of the TAT Traditional Tattoo Association, which was set up to work with traditional tattooists around the world and to protect their own culture, I wanted to connect with craftspeople and others involved in traditional culture to help in some way.
In my personal opinion, a country’s spirituality resides in its traditional culture.
I wish that more people will come into contact with traditional culture, that people will regain their original spirituality and that the world will be a better place.

この度2023年12月にドイツのAAA Abstract Art Academyから日本の伝統芸術的、文化的に重要な工芸技術の保持の功労に対する特別栄誉賞を受賞し、欧州連合とユネスコの協力のもと、国際教授免許を取得しました。この免許により、私はAAA Abstract Art Academy所属の日本伝統芸術の名誉講師となり、日本伝統芸術の教授として世界中の大学で講演する資格を得ました。
世界中に言える事ですが、特に日本では多くの伝統文化に携わる方々は後継者不足の問題に直面しています。その理由の一つとして、現代の若者にとって伝統文化が地味で古臭いといった印象が少なくない事が挙げられます。
そんな中、世界の伝統刺青文化を守る為に発足されたTAT Traditional Tattoo Associationの延長線上で、この免許を使い工芸士など伝統文化に携わる方々と繋がり何か支援や一緒に力を合わせて大きい事が出来るのではと思い至りました。
個人としては、その国の精神性はその国の伝統文化に宿っていると信じています。
より多くの人が伝統文化に触れ、日本人が本来持っていた精神性を取り戻し、より良い世界になるよう自分なりに出来る限りの事は続けていこうと思います。
