Lighting is the quiet architecture of a home. A well-placed sconce creates that low, layered glow overhead lighting can never quite achieve… intimate, flattering, and deeply inviting. It draws the eye inward and gives a room its evening personality.
One of our strongest design beliefs: every room should be lit in layers. Ambient light, task light, candlelight, lamp light, all working together at different heights to create warmth, depth, and atmosphere.
Even better, these sconces came secondhand from a friend, which somehow makes them feel even more at home here. The best rooms are rarely built entirely from new things.

We began with a clear vision: a built-in cocktail bar along the back wall, anchored by a Louis Philippe mirror, of course. But after spending time in the parlor…really studying the space and all it could be (with a cocktail or two in hand) the plan evolved!
A bar on casters means it can move with the moment. Roll it forward, mix a martini, let it work the room. It becomes part of the gathering rather than the backdrop. Functional, intentional, and infinitely more fun. 🍸

The palette is a warm, stained shingle, creamy white trim and punchy green door and a blue-green ceiling on the front porch to ward off evil spirits. Folklore, at it’s best, but also, we are creating some Southern charm and a sense of ease.
We studied all the classical and southern designers we love from to and a few wildly talented designers I’ve recently discovered like with her shop. It’s so good it makes me want to have a storefront again, or, atleast plan a design trip to visit hers!
Sometimes the most transformative thing you can do is edit, and these designers inspired me to do just that.
Our peeling green trim is getting painted Soji White and the difference is already something we can feel before the brush even hits the wood. The front door is getting a fresh coat of green paint, and the porch furniture has arrived from our friends at. As for the original shingles? We’re keeping them. Every last weathered one, replacing only as they fail. This house has history, we’re here to honor it.

Original 1915 white oak met the new boards… and let’s just say they weren’t instantly best friends. So we’re hand sanding and finessing until they agree to live together beautifully. Let’s hope this works!
