Kuleli Askeri Lisesi’ndeki eğitimi devam ederken ilk resim öğretmeni Osman Nuri Paşa’nın teşvikiyle resim çalışmalarına başladı. Eğitim hayatının Harbiye yıllarında ise ressam Hoca Ali Rıza ile karşılaştı ve ondan çok etkilendi. Eyüp Baytar Mektebi’nde resim öğretmeni olarak görev yaparken Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi’ne kaydoldu, 1906 yılında mezun oldu. Mezuniyetinin ardından resim öğretmenliği yatı. 1910 yılında Serasker Mahmut Paşa’nın özel izniyle Paris’e resim eğitimine gönderildi, burada Akademi Julian’da Jean Paul Laurens’ın atölyesinde çalıştı. Bu süreçte klasik biçemden uzaklaşıp izlenimciliğe yöneldi, Türkiye’ye dönünce gördüğü yeniliklerin Sanayi-i Nefise programlarına girmesi için girişimlerde bulundu. Osmanlı Ressamlar Cemiyeti kurucuları arasında yer aldı. Aynı zamanda subay olduğu için Balkan ve Birinci Dünya Savaşları’nda İdadi’den arkadaşı Mehmet Ali Laga ile cephede görevlendirildi. Edirne cephesinde Hasan Rıza ile tanıştı, bu sayede onun yağmalanan atölyesine sahip çıktı, bazı resimlerinin Viyana müzelerine kazandırılmasını sağladı. Esir düşmesine rağmen Bulgar ressamlarla kurduğu ilişkiler sayesinde esaretten kurtuldu. Cephedeki görevleri sırasında yaptığı çizim ve eskizler, Şişli Atölyesi’ndeki büyük boyutlu resimlerinin temelini oluşturdu. Savaştan sonra gazetelerde sanat konulu yazılar yazdı, orta dereceli okullar için iki albüm hazırladı. 1940 yılında “Ressamlarımız I” adlı kitabı yayımlandı. Galatasaray, Ankara ve Viyana Sergileri’ne katıldı. 1945 yılında kurulan Asker Ressamlar Derneği’nin ilk kurucusu oldu. Savaş resimleriyle tanınan Yetik’in manzara, natürmort ve portreleri de önemlidir. Hayatının son yıllarında bilhassa Ankara manzaralarına yöneldi.
