Grief is a topic that is hard to talk about however I believe it’s important. I have learnt so much in this last year and wanted to share here with you, the ones I have met and the ones I haven’t yet.
I hope to encourage more reflection, action and vulnerability in my little corner of social media 🤍 I am so grateful to everyone who has been a source of love, encouragement and support to me and my family in 2025 and to 🙏🏼 I wouldn’t be where I am today with you. Thank you 🥹

Back in 2018 I gave my Mum a journal as a gift. I suggested she start writing in it to reflect on her days - the good, the bad, the wins, the losses, what she was stressed about, what she hoped for, anything she wanted. She started writing in it not long after.
At the end of 2022 when she was admitted into the hospital after her cancer diagnosis she asked me to bring the journal for her. I saw her read through it. I saw her write in it.
Fast forward to 2025 and I’m preparing myself to go through my first Mother’s Day without her present here. Although I can’t celebrate with her physically here I’ve decided from now on I’ll do something every year to celebrate who she is. This year I decided I was going to get a tattoo of her handwriting but I didn’t know what to get.
I thought about it for a couple of months until one day this journal gets handed back to me again. I’m told that she addressed this journal “to my daughter”. In total shock I open the front cover and realised that the whole time I saw her writing she had been writing for me. Long before she knew she was sick. I can’t explain how I felt in that moment but I’ve learnt you can feel two things at the same time - both immense pain and immense love.
With the help of my friends we found a poem Mum wrote and the phrase “In Your Heart” just stuck hit me. That’s what I decided to get and after one conversation with him I knew there was no better person to do it than at. His heart for his craft, compassionate approach and years of experience really showed. Huge thank you to who was there present with me and captured these special moments for me to remember 🥹
I’m so thankful I have this special piece now to celebrate my Mum. What a privilege it was to be your daughter and you’re right, you’ll always be in my heart 🤍

During a time of the year when so many are planning celebrations, festivities and social gatherings I know for others like myself I know it was also a tough time. This was the first year navigating the pain of not having Mum here physically with us. There was a mix of emotions - a deep sense of comfort knowing she’s at peace in Heaven and no longer suffering pain and yet also feeling my heart ache all over again with sadness because I miss her presence ❤️🩹
You have days where the sorrow in your heart feels too heavy to bear alone, and that’s exactly one of the lessons that 2024 taught me - don’t do it alone. Personally, the most difficult thing is to allow people to see you when you’re breaking, when you’re low and when you don’t have anything to offer. I’m still learning how to be better at this but I am so thankful to the people who have been patient, kind and compassionate in these moments.
To the person out there that’s also grieving - It’s okay to cry. Your tears can bring you more healing than you think. It’s okay to not be okay. I know it might feel easier to numb your pain but pain is a sign that you’re a human who has the capacity to love. It’s okay to choose who and when you process these feelings with. Get to know your safe people. It’s okay to also have time to yourself. Everyone grieves differently. I’m still learning too.
As my brother and I watched the first sunrise of 2025 🌅 I know what Mum would’ve said to us both - “Look Forward”. That’s what we will try our best to do. I hope you’ll do the same 🤍
Later that day, as I was with some friends at home there was a moment where I got up and I saw the bottom of a rainbow appearing 🌈 this has always been a sign to me of promise and new beginnings. As I watched this rainbow get bigger and brighter the song “Earthlights” by Christian Wade started to play. This was the song I chose to announce which was inspired by Mum. As the song came to an end, the rainbow also faded. It was such a special moment that I’ll never forget 🥲 a sign and a wonder.

There are truly no amount of words that can ever express or do justice to how much Mum meant to us 🥲 To be her daughter and her son have been our biggest joys and we can only hope that we continue to uphold and honour her heart, spirit and legacy through our lives.
I know that Mum was an inspiration to so many - an example of hope, perseverance, resilience, courage, strength, love and generosity ✨ For now, I am grieving the loss of my Mum but I know Heaven is rejoicing having welcomed such a beautiful soul back home.
For anyone who has been following our journey as a family, I want to say thank you so much for all your love and support. I’ll continue to say the same thing to you as I always have - “don’t give up and keep fighting” 💪🏼 Make memories. Capture moments. Be present. Cherish the time you have together.
Rest in peace Mama 🤍🤍🤍 you will be so dearly missed but I will do my best to celebrate you for the rest of my days x
