Back to Berlin, but this time with a speedy squad 😍 when & asked me to come help coach a group of women with some pretty big goals a few months ago I was 100% on board (wow what an honor!)

What I didn’t expect was how my own relationship with running would change in the process. I thought I would help these girls reach their goals to run fast (which they did!), but they ended up helping me more than I could have ever helped them. I’ve run more races in the last 9 months than I did my whole last two years as a pro. But it was so much easier to not run when I physically couldn’t run, and recently it’s been confusing. What started as a grateful attitude to be running again, has slowly shifted into having more questions about this new relationship with running than answers. How do I make new goals that set me up for success? Should I be grateful to be here? Push myself? What does pushing myself look like when I’ve also just spent 10 hours in the lab.

I think the most impressive part of this group of women was that everyone came from different backgrounds, jobs, training experience and they all threw themselves into this big goal without losing themselves in the process. It turns out it’s never too late to redefine your relationship with something you’ve been doing your whole life.

So thank you Sarah for the opportunity, thank you to girls for the many Wednesday nights after work and thank you for reminder that though we are constantly evolving, the best is still yet to come. Here’s to more start lines, many more hours in the lab (exciting stuff in the works!) and hopefully some more lessons in how to grow with change 🫶🏻

don’t blink, this life moves fast! with more on the horizon 😇 #mahlzeit
Today, with, I’ll take you behind the scenes of a pilot test of my PhD research investigating recovery from running in different fueling interventions. The focus of this research is to understand how fueling and menstrual cycle hormones interact to impact next day performance, informing the real world practices of female athletes, who often have multiple training sessions in a day or rounds of a competition in a weekend.

Getting research-backed information to help female athletes make informed decisions about their health and performance has always been my goal. Luckily I’m surrounded by women-led and founded companies who believe in this same mission. With ’ focus on female specific research and ’s commitment to translating and funding research for women, the future is bright for our female athletes!

Launched by the, the VISF Grant funds women researchers, with a focus on former athletes and PhD candidates, who are helping close long-standing gaps in sport science.

The first grant recipient is, former professional middle-distance runner, 13x NCAA All-American, former Mentor, and current PhD candidate. Her research focuses on RED-S, hormonal health, and recovery in women athletes.

This is how we change the system for girls and women in sport.

a season of change! while running will always have a place in my day, it’s now shoved between seminars I’m teaching or masters students I’m supervising or 6am research visits. my days look totally different and are filled with new challenges, so it was surprising to me that the feeling of going out the door for a run hasn’t changed at all. and I suppose I’m grateful for the little constants in this season of change 🩷
Berlin Marathon 2025 🩷

To start this recap, wow was this fun (words I’d never thought I’d say about the Marathon). When the opportunity to run the marathon fell into my lap a few weeks ago, I thought maybe I was crazy for thinking I could go from running 35 mi/wk to racing a marathon in 6 weeks. So when the gun went off, I had no idea what to expect, but waiting 7 minutes before I could even cross the start line was not it 😂

The first 10k was basically a chill version of Mario cart. Trying to balance being super in control but also having to weave in and out of people as I found myself running a bit quicker than the group around me. The crowds were crazy and everything felt just so alive.

I got to the half at 1:29:56 and felt really good, I knew that if I could make it a few more K’s feeling this good I could start to pick it up a bit. I was told the race didn’t start till 30k so be patient until then.

At 27k, I took another gel and could feel the energy shifting around me. I’m feeling better as this race goes on, let’s see if we can press. Next mile: 6:28. Is that too much of a press?! The guy next to me says great job, keep the press. From 27k-39k I’m in a flow state like I haven’t been in a long time. My game of Mario cart is still going strong, picking people off, the K’s are flying by, oh wait- that was hi!

41k- I can see the finish, I’ve been running a long time now I think I’d like to be done.

42k - 2:56:37:) joy, gratitude and love for this sport and my body to allow me to take part in such a truly beautiful thing.

This recap wouldn’t be complete without taking a moment to appreciate how far I’ve come in the last year. From surgery to celebrating little walks to moving across the world to a marathon in under a year. I have so much to be grateful for—my health, my friends,, and being able to race again in this way just felt like such a celebration of gratitude w/everyone who’s been in my corner 💕
August, you were good to me!! 🫶🏻💛
traded my American nights for German days 🤝🏻 two weeks in Munich and I’m finally getting a hang of which direction the U-Bahn’s go so I figured it was time for a lil welcome workout. Excited for this chapter to start 🫶🏻
he was a skater boi, she said see ya later boy 🫡
I’ve got a bit of a life update, as I know I’ve been quiet lately. I’ll start with the news that we found a moderately large mass in my chest, on my thymus, a few weeks ago. We still haven’t identified the type of tumor I have but masses in this area are usually slow growing and it has likely contributed to the struggles I’ve faced the last years competing. Prior to finding the mass, I’d been sidelined from nearly all activity due the constant heavy fatigue, racing and irregular heart rates and rhythms, difficulty breathing and chest tightness. Along with the mass, my heart technically has a “conduction abnormality and interseptal hypertrophy” aka it’s tired.

Truthfully, I’ve known something wasn’t right for a long time, so getting some answers has actually brought some relief and validation. It’s been a difficult time figuring out why I’ve felt so bad the last year but I’m grateful to finally be making some progress. And my body seems to be very grateful for the rest 🩷 So you may see me around cheering for friends and family, but you won’t see me competing for the time being. Keeping the vibes high and the energy good but I’m grateful for any and all positivity!
