Just sitting in circle is half the magic: we take the ceremonial posture, seated, knees almost touching, and the circle begins its work on us. In circle, as in ceremony, we say: this…this matters. This threshold, this transition, this moment in the beautiful mundane of a life, is important to me.
The more I sit in circles with women, the more I believe that this is one of the most important things I’m doing in my life right now. It’s edgy work, it’s essential work, it’s potent work. The rogue therapist in me just wants to cast circle within circle, then ceremonialize what’s murky and what’s revealed and what’s born from these spaces.
We don’t need a circle to create ceremony in our lives, though. Like Robin says- ceremony makes holiness out of habit, ritual out of routine. It’s all an invitation into the curiosity of the present moment- an invitation inward.
Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass, shares in her book that in some Native languages, the term for plants translates to “those who take care of us”. As someone who takes care of many others, I do feel deeply cared for by the herbal allies I have relationships with. I believe that part of honoring these relationships is creating reciprocity through education, and reverence for the natural world and its wisdom. Teaching, sharing what I’ve learned and what has been shared with me, is one way I can contribute to this reciprocity. I also just get so excited about it! In fact, I believe that cultivating our relationships with nature is one of the most crucial acts we can do in this moment, for grounding, for clarity, for movement forward.

I went on an “herb walk” recently, in search of lymphatic spring plants to harvest that, when brewed into dank herbal infusions, will support my body in moving the stagnancy of late winter.
A thought occurred to me while on this walk, while tucked into my favorite urban canyon. I’m sure it’s not a novel thought, but it gave me a lot of relief, so I’m sharing it here: My creativity, my writing, my online engagement, has been hibernating.
After such an intensive outpouring of energy and devotion for last fall’s retreat, I needed to rest. I needed to pull my energy inward, and direct a steady stream to the places that require ongoing tending. And I did. And now, like the herbs will bring movement to the lymph in my cells, I’m ready for renewed creative energy to bring fresh aliveness to the work I share here.
36+ books deep this year, I’m pleased to say that I’ve found two strategies that really help me get through my “To Read” list:
• Listen to nonfiction, read fiction: I hike/walk/ruck 4-5 miles at least 5 days a week and do a large amount of my listening during these 1.5 hour sessions. For my learning style, I’ve found that I consume and retain nonfiction best via audio, so this is how I usually take in these books- they are rarely what I want to dive into at night after my kid goes to sleep.
• Libby 🫶🏼: I love libraries and I love the Libby app! I often have as many as 20 books queued up in my holds, and either read/listen as they come available, or postpone the books until I’m ready for them. I listen to audio right in the app, then download books straight to my kindle and the kindle app on my phone. Having my current book on my phone has been a game changer, because I’ll go to this instead of scrolling in idle time (and then my current page syncs up with my kindle at home).
Some of these books I absolutely loved, and some I really did not- in 2025 I’m giving myself permission to abandon books I’m not into!
Ask me about any of these, and tell me what I should add to my list for next year!
By the numbers, this year alone I met with 59 remarkable humans, and we spent 1,470 hours sitting together in sessions. Of the 59 clients, the most long term amongst them I have had the incredible honor of witnessing for over 10 years, and the newest client started just last week.
Numbers don’t tell the whole story, though: they flatten the richness and aliveness of what they represent. And while they don’t hold the energy, they do capture the significance of the ritual…of the strength of the communal web we are weaving, one hour of ‘being-together’ at a time. When I welcome a new client, I welcome them into this web that we’ve been building together for years through our dedication, relationships and devotion to the act of curiosity and witnessing. They may not know the other people and the other stories that have created this constellation, but they become an integral part of it.
This year has reminded me that transformation doesn’t always come in the form of grand epiphanies or milestones. Often, it’s found in the quiet moments: the pause before a new choice, the space we create to listen to the nudges of our own wisdom. It’s been an honor to hold that space with you.
My approach has always been rooted in the science of the mind, yet it snakes through the symbolic, the archetypal, and the mystical. I am endlessly grateful for the chance to weave these elements into our work together, blending the practical with the intuitive, and anchoring each step of your journey in intuition.
To my wider community—thank you for being here. Your engagement, curiosity, and openness to new ways of thinking and being make this work so rewarding.
Here’s to another year of growth, reflection, and discovery. May we continue to embrace both the seen and unseen, the light and the shadow, the tangible and the symbolic. I look forward to walking alongside you in the year ahead.
Wishing you a peaceful close to the year and a grounded start to the next. 🌿✨
“The solstice reminds us that life moves in cycles, and times of dormancy, like the winter solstice, offer us something crucial: the sacred pause. Just as the solstice marks the longest night of the year, our “in between times” invite us to stop, to be still, and to sit with what is—without rushing to change or fix it. Like the dark, so often misunderstood, this pause asks us to lean into trust: trust in what we can’t see, in what hasn’t yet revealed itself, and in what’s quietly growing beneath the surface…”
Also in this newsletter: retreat reflections, a gratitude practice backed by science, and my winter herbal wellness go-to.
In the meantime, please enjoy a bit of end-of-the-year imagery, sentiments, and the poem I haven’t been able to shake this season… 🕯️🌖
Retreat day 4- Revealing the Hidden: Archetypes as Guides in Shadow Work
Tea blending workshop
Retreat day 5- Coming Home, A Return to Self: Integration, Alignment, Vision
Travel-day yoga
On our final full day, we set the stage for delving into an archetypal inquiry and a dance with shadow. We gathered around our garden table to meet & work with herbal allies for emotional vitality, creating custom intuitive tea blends to weave into daily rituals at home. That evening, we strung together our workshops to deepen our understanding of our fundamental question: “Who am I now?”. Dinner was a festive celebration and we dined way past our bedtimes. On the morning before departure, we prepared our bodies to venture out across the globe, and shared a final workshop in which we identified the alchemical ingredients for our Essential Self, and together created a shared, collective recipe for accessing this Self once home.
This trip was pure magic- I am deeply grateful to have been tasked with creating this experience, and the honor of guiding a phenomenal group of women through The Ceremony of Self is not lost on me in the slightest. More to come!
