In Toronto, development charges on a single family home went from $12K in 2010 to $141K today. That’s a 1000% jump while inflation only moved 35%. BC is on the same path, and it’s a big reason new construction in the Okanagan has slowed down. The permit desk is the most expensive line item on the bill.
