🚋 it takes a bit over an hour to get to Arras from Paris but it’s so worthwhile since you will be standing on a Flemish style square glowing with lights, chalets, music and beautiful decorations
🎄if you are planning to go here are some tips:
- if you want to avoid the crowds then arrive around noon, however stay till sunset to see it in full sparkle
- the market is on the Grand Place and super easy to find
- you can see the entire square from the Ferris Wheel or from top of the church
- the surrounding streets are beautiful so don’t skip wandering beyond the square

I took the train to the North but only until Arras to visit the biggest Christmas market in France. This city absolutely charmed me, i thought i was going for a cute Christmas market but the whole town felt more like a winter painting. So many streets decorated, rows of chalets, smells of cinnamon and roasted nuts, historic Flemish facades - perfect for a slow winter escape

Welcome to one of the biggest Christmas markets in north of France. Just an hour away from Paris by train and suddenly you are surrounded by chalets, twinkling lights, mulled wine and a soft winter atmosphere. It feels like a little winter village with 200 stalls offering gifts, food, decoration and many more.
🕵️‍♂️helpful tips:
- i recommend going there during the week if you can because it gets pretty busy during the weekend
- go after 3PM so you see it in daylight and in full Christmas lights. Sunset glow is everything, it makes the city look even more magical
- the market stretches over 2kms, so make sure to wear comfy shoes
🚋 you can easily get there by taking the TER from Gare du Nord to Amiens. The Christmas market starts right outside of the city’s train station

I recently visited Chateau de la Reine Blanche, a tiny, magical white castle tucked away in the forest near Chantilly. As soon as I entered, i saw swans across the peaceful lake, a cute little creperie serving fresh galettes and crepes all day, oh and total calm all around.
I’d heard about this place ages ago but thought it was impossible to get to without a car. Turns out, it’s pretty doable. I took the RER D (you can also hop on the faster TER from Gare du Nord), rode about 20-25 minutes, then strolled through the charming village of Coye la Foret and into the woods to get there. Don’t be discouraged by the walk because it’s all worth it.
Just a heads up: it’s outside of Ile de France so your Navigo pass won’t work the whole way, you’ll need to purchase an extra ticket, but nothing too complicated.
So if you are looking for a quiet, dreamy day trip with nature, history, and crepes obviously, this spot is perfect. And the best part, it’s right next to Chantilly so you can totally visit both in one day.
So type “Chateau de la Reine Blanche- Coye la Foret” into Google Maps and follow the same route i took. Walk around the lake surrounded by the vast forest, take a coffee with a crepe at L’Etang d’Art which got views feel like a painting and enjoy this view of the castle of which many legends are still talked about, one of the most famous is that it was haunted by fairies, also known as the Dames Blanches (no, i’m not kidding!)
