To see perspective learners pick up the tools of their trade for the first time and realize that they were made for this - to realize and to know that to be able to embroider or to be able to make furniture is something that can come from deep within, and the opportunity to express that talent can change lives.
We really believe that teaching skills for today will truly be the jobs for tomorrow. Wishing you all a very happy festive season. Thank you for joining us so far on our journey. Watch out, world, here we come for 2026!
It has, however, been a year of tremendous growth and learning, beautiful bespoke pieces of furniture going all over the world, and our first-ever round rug from Cape Looms. As well as the development of Craft School South Africa, which will open its first class on the second of February 2026.
Without the wonderful showrooms, our collaborators, the incredible craftspeople making the pieces, the wonderful weavers at Cape Looms, the foundation team and volunteers at Craft School South Africa, and my incredible team, none of this would be possible.
With each relationship, it feels a little bit like holding hands, and thank you for holding us in 2025, wishing you a fantastic festive season. I'm looking forward to so much more for 2026.
This project requires grit and hard work, and can offer and create so many opportunities. Seeing the campus filled with students writing aptitude tests, making boxes, embroidering for the first time, making hats and printing fabric, and doing a small upholstery project was the most incredibly heartwarming and humbling experience, and I want to thank all the people who supported us by popping in and I want to thank all our volunteers - cousins, mother, friends, and daughters for giving up their time. A project like ours cannot run without volunteers so thank you. To our early donors - the people who have given us donations so far, you have believed in a dream that has turned into a reality, and next year we will prove it works!
Thank you for the faith you've had in us. I want to thank the incredible team at the foundation, at, and at for moving at warp speed, dusting me off when I stumble, u-turning when needed, swimming upstream, knocking on doors, and knocking on them again and again. Thank you.
The class of 2026 spent the 3rd and 4th of December doing their design development days at our beautiful New Campus in Cape Town. And what a powerful experience it was. For them and for us.
The whole idea was that we could truly get to know them and understand not only their creative aptitudes so that we can determine which crafts they will study but also dig deep to understand their social, environmental and educational challenges and needs to best support them. When they walk through our doors on 2 February 2026 we will be prepared with the best support, not only craft education - also language support, numeracy skills, and a pastoral care program that understands each individual's social and economic challenges and living environment so that we can determine how very best to serve them and nuture them in the Craft School South Africa world so that by the end of their time with us they will understand what it means to be an engaged Young South African contributing to their Society. Aside from the interviews and testings they made hats, they made boxes, and painted and embroided and upholstered and weaved and printed fabric and spun yarn. Beyond the hard work we were overwhelmed to see an electic creativity, excitement and connection.
2026 is going to be wild and this class is going to set the standard for education of craftsman for South Africa at a very high bar. We have our work cut out for us but I will say this - Watch out world - here we come! Thank you to apart the charities through whom these students came to us came to us.
