This job was tough. These Italian limestone effect tiles are gorgeous… but man are they hard work to lay 😅 Lawrence really took one for the team on this one.

This seemed to divide a lot of people. Some thought we were crazy to paint over this original feature, while others seemed to think the dark wood is dated.
We absolutely love the character of this house and want to celebrate its Victorian features, but we also want it to feel like a modern home.
Does anyone have any tips on how they would sand all of this wood? Wondering if the natural wood would look better with a clear varnish?
Also, I’ve never seen another example of a house with panelling this high! It goes above the door, so well above head hight. This means whatever finish/colour we go for will cover most of our walls which all have high ceilings.
Any advice is welcome. I’d also love to hear from anyone else who has seen panelling like this before.

We kept asking ourselves - What have others seen that we’re missing? Is there a sinister structural issue that we’ve not picked up on?
We got an extensive survey to find out. And yes - the survey was bad. But it didn’t uncover much more than we already saw with our eyes.
We’re not joking when we say the surveyor told us to run, but old houses with damp are every surveyors worst nightmare.
Houses like this were built to last. So was he overreacting? We hope so.
