ASMR Archaeology love or hate? π π€ͺπ (I am still undecided honestly)
Step forward Rosie Crawford, an Archaeological Science Research Assistant at, who reveals the hidden gems of her work πΊ
"I've been investigating how people in the past made beautiful objects like woven blankets, gold necklaces and decorated ceramics in stateless societies. No two days are the same β I could be at a desk writing, and the next Iβll be in the lab 3D scanning pottery or using x-rays to find the chemical composition of gold beads."
Rosie studied Archaeology and Anthropology at, followed by an MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology at β where her love for archaeological science really took off.
"My MSc exposed me to archaeological science more generally, including the analysis of materials like glass and metal β thatβs how I ended up in this very cool job!"
One of Rosie's highlights at Cambridge so far? π€©
"The archaeological science community here, but also our research trips to Colombia. Pre-Hispanic Colombia is our key case-study, so weβve travelled there several times to analyse artefacts and have been collaborating with amazing Colombian archaeologists."
And her advice for aspiring archaeologists? β¨
"Contact local universities, archaeological societies, and museums for volunteering opportunities. This is a great way to see what kind of archaeology you like, and to strengthen future applications to jobs or university.
"Also, many archaeologists are publishing exciting research and science in open access journal articles (free ones!), so if thereβs something youβre particularly interested in, have a dig around online to widen your knowledge β no pun intended."
