My elbow has that familiar tinge from repetitive sanding motion, which can only mean one thing…Shop Refresh on the horizon!
This video is a small moment of all the sanding tlc that each piece receives. I’m looking for the texture of riverstone on the bottoms so that they sit perfectly without scuffing a nice tabletop. This is the third and final 600 grit diamond pad pass that each piece receives on the bottoms. They all get a 200 and 400 to start with, but that 600 really polishes them splendidly!
The entire clay exterior is also sanded with 400 and 600 grit diamond pads. I’m hoping for a soft texture consistent with a patina on a stone.🏞️ 🪨

I’ve been so busy in the studio, out on the road with, and recovering from a few climbing injuries I haven’t been able to get outside climbing much at all. Hopefully I can start moving in the mountains more regularly!

It’s great to be back in the studio in Colorado after an amazing trip to Michigan with the. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to NCECA in Detroit, and and for our workshops. It was wonderful to meet so many excited folks in person.

I’ve been busy in the studio, shifting from making to firing, sanding, and photographing as I prepare for my upcoming ‘Fall Collection’ release. Autumn has been magical here in CO, and I managed to escape to the mountains for a quick trip recently, just as the first icy winds and early-season snow started to appear. I had to dodge a few snow flurries, but the cooler fall air made it all worthwhile. Sometimes patience and perseverance is the key to bouldering up in the CO alpine elevations. I’m glad I wrapped up this climb before the heavy snows settle in for the season!

A little moving and grooving and process snapshot into how I make a tumbler/large vertical cup form. These forms are fun to make, especially the trimming and shaping of the massive amount of clay for the foot!
I’ve always been huge fan of trimming, and the super wet clay is so luscious to trim and throw. I typically use a combination of hand building and wheel throwing techniques.
This is a high speed example of how I make a tumbler form, which I haven’t really posted previously. So let me know if you have any questions.
