‘Coed Coexist’ is now open and it’s a beautifully thoughtful exhibition that feels deeply connected to the landscape and history of Pen Llŷn.
The project began after a huge beech tree, believed to be around 150–200 years old, fell during a winter storm in the grounds of the Plas. Instead of letting the tree’s story end there, local artists Junko Mori and John Egan transformed it into something extraordinary, bringing together artists, makers and creatives to create work inspired by woodland, nature, craftsmanship and coexistence.
The exhibition runs until 12th July and fills the gallery with beautifully made pieces, textures and stories, all rooted in the natural beauty of Llŷn 🌿
Definitely worth adding to your list this half term or on your next wander through Llanbedrog.

While sorting the massive fallen beech tree, I had the chance to examine the very tip of its canopy, branches that had once reached around forty metres from the ground. In a cross-section of even the smallest twig, just 5mm across under a microscope, I found the same concentric ring pattern, echoing the beech tree stump at the centre of the Coed Coexist project.
That led to a series of drawings, which became the starting point for Stem. I collected discarded electric cables from a local scrapyard and stripped them back to reveal copper wire in different gauges. Working from the drawings, we welded mesh, bent wire and textured each element by hand. The work is rooted in repetition, both in the growth patterns of trees and in the process of making itself.
On view until 12 July.
The piece began with a drawing inspired by a 5mm cross-section of a beech tree stem viewed under a microscope. These concentric forms repeat across both micro and macro worlds, and also reminded me of the cross-section of the beech tree stump that’s central to the Coed Coexist project.
Together with my team of makers, we created thousands of small petals and gradually assembled them into the final work. I cherish these moments of collective making – a community coming together to create a single artwork, much like the communal gatherings of my grandmother’s generation, where this kind of making was a ritual.
The original beech stump remains within the woodland, slowly decaying and regenerating as it returns to the soil, continuing its role in the old-growth ecosystem. Stem is a celebration of community, regeneration, and making with future generations in mind.

Diolch yn fawr, huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening at the weekend. It was a dream come true to see over 80 artists and craftspeople from across North Wales and beyond brought together in one exhibition, each responding to a singular fallen beech tree – the origin of this project. We feel incredibly lucky to have worked with the team at on this project, who are an incredible group of people doing remarkable work.
𝘾𝙤𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙚𝙭𝙞𝙨𝙩 began with an act of nature. In January 2024, a 150–200-year-old beech tree fell at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, sparking a project exploring woodland ecology, material lifecycles, and our reliance on these ecosystems. The tree was shared with over 80 artists and utilised in its entirety – from planks to charcoal – honouring its life and continued presence.
Through sculpture, furniture, music, writing, and cultural exchange with Japan, the exhibition reflects on shared origins, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
The exhibition continues until 12 July.

The thin silver ring you see at the beginning of the reel started as a structural guide, which I later cut apart, welded more elements onto, and reassembled into the final form.
There are only two of these silver rings in existence — the first was made in 2017 and was acquired by, and this newest piece, Silver Poetry: Spring Fever Tanka Ring, 2025, which is available through.

I used four different thicknesses of wire in the core of this piece to make subtle ‘growth rings’ and, while heating the sandblasted surface, the thinner wires darkened more quickly than the thicker ones, making this beautiful pattern. Grateful every day to be a maker ❤️.
