one of my college besties, mindy, texted me asking for photographer recs in nyc for her little sisterâs proposal the following week. i responded, âi kid u not i just jumped out of bed to look at flights to new yorkâ
mindy immediately called me and asked, âwait⊠do YOU want to do it?â and i was like YES?!?!?! within an hour, i had booked a flight leaving for nyc in 4 daysđ
since i already had galentineâs day + lunar new year plans that monday, the earliest i could fly out was monday night to land tuesday morning. after i landed, i headed to a friendâs apartment to nap because i was absolutely exhausted. a few hours later, i met up with p at brooklyn bridge park to scout the proposal location and map out exactly where everything would happen. we picked a spot with the brooklyn bridge in the background, fresh snow on the ground, and the prettiest winter light.
when the time came, p brought m over to the spot while i hid behind the carousel sniping the proposal from afar. the sun was hitting the snow so perfectly, and the whole moment felt so joyful. when m turned around and realized i was the photographer, the shock on her face was pricelessđ she could not believe i flew all the way to new york for her proposal.
also, p had strained his acl, so he could only kneel for literally a second. i captured the actual moment as it happened, then we recreated a few shots after so they could fully soak it in without stress. afterwards, we wandered around brooklyn bridge taking couple photos until sunset and called mindy to tell her everything.
and then⊠that same night, i flew straight back to sf on a redeye because i had a san francisco city hall elopement the next morningđ
so yes, flying to new york for less than 12 hours is officially one of the craziest side quests of my photography careerđ

while i was on vacation in costa rica, i told my tour guide i was itching to shoot a hot couple LOL. while we were exploring playa carrillo, she spotted m+j and literally walked up to them, showed them my instagram, and asked if theyâd model for me.
shockingly enough, m told me she had actually seen my photos on instagram about a year ago. i was SO caught off guard that somehow my work had reached someone on a completely different continent đ that was the moment it really hit me that my photos are being seen by people all around the world, and that some people might even remember them years later.
it felt surreal. i think that moment reminded me how meaningful this job is to me. sometimes i forget that my art can emotionally impact people iâve never even met â that someone on the opposite side of the world could see my work and feel something from it. definitely a moment iâll never forget.

instead of a traditional bouquet toss, they threw a labubu into the crowd. iconic. and during the garter toss, anthony hilariously wore a headlamp to âsearchâ for the garter⊠only to pull out a baby shirt instead, revealing to all of their guests that theyâre expecting.
they also had a late-night snack bar filled with shin ramen, buldak, milkis, chrysanthemum tea, and all of their favorite asian snacks, which felt so personal and nostalgic in the best way. little details like this are what make a wedding feel less like a production and more like an actual reflection of the people at the center of it.
it makes my heart so happy when im documenting weddings for couples who care more about creating an experience than following a checklist. the luxury isnât just in the venue or the details â itâs in the freedom to make the day feel entirely your own.
photographing this wedding was also a creative dream. the architecture at Hacienda de la Moraga gave us endless inspiration, from the grand pillars to the layered balconies and swaying palms. i had so much fun using the palm leaves to frame aâs dress hanging from the balcony and playing with her veil draped over the edge to create something that felt cinematic, editorial, and alive.

golden hour at Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery for their Bay Area wedding, and i swear i kept gasping behind my camera during their portraits

Iâm still reminiscing on Sharon & Ianâs San Francisco City Hall wedding â an intimate day full of meaning, tradition, and the people they love most. They reserved the Mayorâs Balcony on the second floor of SF City Hall and got married surrounded by close friends and family before continuing the celebration with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at a local restaurant and the best Chinese food feast after!
A year later, they trusted me again â this time to document a new milestone in their lives: their pregnancy! I was stoked to get to see them again! For their maternity session in Southern California, we wandered the Getty Villa, capturing both quiet, close-up moments that celebrated the bump and wider shots that honored the architecture and scenery around them.
Being invited back to document these chapters, from wedding day to their growing family, is the greatest honor of my work as a wedding photographer. These arenât just sessions; theyâre memories woven together across seasons of life.
